Out of the three tracks I started messing around with, this one came off sounding the best. I always enjoyed the simplicity and overall sound of "Midnight".

I stumbled across this web page sometime last year and enjoyed the entries from the last competition. So when the competition was held again this year, I devoted a weekend to finishing my entry. In a way, I look at this as giving something back to Orbital for all the great track they have given us (the audience).

Broad range of styles here. I have been influenced by Techno groups like Orbital, and Crystal Method to Utah Saints and Fatboy Slim; from Industrial Groups like Nine Inch Nails and Martin Atkins to Doubting Thomas, Ambient Groups like FSOL to The Orb; and the group last but not least, Pop Will Eat Itself.

This whole remix was done a PC in a college dorm room. Started off by digitally copying the track onto my hard drive. Using Sound Forge 4.5, I picked off the one loop at the beginning of the song. I used a few percussion loops from a program called New Beat Trancemision and the rest were recorded using Rebirth 2.0. Once the basic format was down, I recorded about 12 keyboard melodies using a Yamaha PSR-230 (nothing special, just a plain jane keyboard with no effects) and used the effects in Sound Forge to spice everything up a bit. Finally, I loaded all the samples into Sonic Foundry's ACID (the best multi track sequencing program I have ever used) and started assembling my remix one track at a time.
