Boeing tried, they just couldn't get it to not fall apart... Seemingly when it was first launched, BA didn't know what to charge for a seat, so they sent around a questionnaire to some businessmen as to what they would expect to be charged. the price that came back was up to five times what BA had expected and thus, understandably, that is what they charged. It was only sometime later that they found out that most of the questionnaires had been filled out, not by the businessmen, but by their secretaries.
