Yeah i like it but its just a visual glitch machine and we had the audio side of glitch over 5 years ago with brothomstates etc...
just
Look forward to trying it out. Get ready for every remixed track on the web to start sounding glitchy just like everyone does acid remixes cus the software makes it easy.

Yeah, but linking it to something like Ableton Live would mean you could trigger the video samples in a live bootleg fashion, which to me is exciting...Loopz wrote:Yeah i like it but its just a visual glitch machine and we had the audio side of glitch over 5 years ago with brothomstates etc...

I reckon you're right about this, loopz, although 1) glitch music is rarely produced based on strict algorithms, 2) the idea of mapping two or more pieces of music based on the similarity of the sound waves is pretty fantastic, and offers fascinating opportunities.
Here's to hoping they GNU-release it reasonably soon.

oh dont get me wrong, i'm not knocking the software or the technology. It IS mind blowing but the end result is what i'm looking at and if you watch the whole of the video you will see a few examples at the end that really all sound just as glitchy as each other. It then became a bit of a bore to watch imo.
Glitch is fantastic when executed in a more constructive way and maybe this is where the software will fail.

mmm actually got around to watching the video now. it does look very cool, and fun to play with, but i agree it would have pretty limited novelty use as it is as far as actually performing music with it goes because of the constantly very glitchy nature of the sound.

*edit* another thought, even without modifying the software you could still use it to produce av streams which can then be sampled and arranged into (or incorporated into) a finished piece, in the same way that you might do with an audio stream - i keep finding when i experiment with little unpolished audio manipulation tools that the best way to get something useful is to render to wav, then use soundforge to beat it into shape.
as is, yeah, but the good news is it's getting open sourced, so people will be able to find all sorts of ways to use the concept in a more structured and effective wayGlitch is fantastic when executed in a more constructive way and maybe this is where the software will fail.
