The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

Just wondering if you have heard of a Finnish group called 'Tolls Toys'. A Finnish friend of my wife was over on a visit and she gave me 3 cd's of theirs along with one by MC POLY (there's supposed to be an umlaut {or whatever it is in Suomi} over the O). Just curious :D

Cheers

Wehey, my first FAO thread! :D

But I have to say: No. :| To be honest, my knowledge of Finnish electronic artists is shamefully bad... I can recommend Pepe Deluxé and Aavikko though. Plus of course the IDM guys, Brothomstates epecially. :)

What is Tolls Toys (love the name) like, BTW? Worth checking out? :)

Sorry for not answering sooner. Comp's been kaputt for a couple of days.

Just listening to the second of the albums 'Shamindstream'.

Very dark, which funnily enough I kinda expected, although not particularly heavy. Strong rhythms on most of the tracks but rarely getting upto a tempo where you could dance at anything more than a semi-vigourous sway to it, so very much one for the head-gazers and and shoe-nodders (of which I would class myself BTW  ). One stand out track so far, 'boomshankar for chapora' which I do recommend.

I can never tell who sounds like what, or they are influenced by, but to me it sounds a bit like an even more electronic Death in Vegas, but darker and much more trance like and without any vocals to count as such. On some of the tracks I can hear a lot of Gong and Ozric Tentacles as being an influence, and possibly some Can as well.
Feel free to scoff and such like :D

Also it sounds like a lot of it was recorded live in the garage of someone's house.

Overall not bad, couple of really good tracks that are definitely worth a second listen. Not sure yet if I would have bought it, need to hear it again.
