Amsterdam Dance Event

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

Amsterdam Dance Event

Post by Monkey Chop »

I'm going to Amsterdam for the first time and it just happens to coincide with the Amsterdam Dance Event :

Has anyone actually heard of this before?! Apparently it's been running for 10 years but I don't recognise many of the acts or DJs playing. Can anyone recommend any decent artists to see there? Or, even better will anyone be out in Dam for this?

It's alleged to be becoming as important as the Miami Music Conference.

Hi Timbob, I will be out there on the Saturday and was thinking of going to Melkweg or Paradiso. Any idea what they are like? Got any other club recommendations for Amsterdam? Don't wanna go anywhere pretentious or cheesy...

Yeah, saw Dave Clark is playing on the Thursday. Shame I'm not there till the weekend but just glad the event is on at all! Had a look through the programme and it sounds quality but maybe a bit too much house. What's it generally been like before?

Saw Roots Manuva at Paradiso earlier this year great venue...been to the dam twice in recent years to get away from it all...totally enjoyed myself both times...you will have a great time! 8)

Melkweg & paradiso are both great clubs. they usually have concerts there, any kind of music, with a party afterwards.
don't know a lot about other clubs, but those two usually have good nights out :)

Well, I didn't manage to see anyone!!! Just walked around in a haze but loved every minute of it. Amsterdam's a great city! Was very impressed at how chilled it is almost always (other than the fecking bikes).

If anyone is interested, and it's a long way away, but it's gonna be the 40 year anniversary of Gong next year and they are holding the Gong Convention in 'dam. This years was @ Glastonbury and had System 7 along with Steve Hillage's new group Mirror System (VERY nice chilled electronic/ambient) along with the usual range of hippy/psychadelic/prog rock.

stimpee, you went to amsterdam to see accu, koneveljet and jori hulkkonen? For a while I thought you'd gone to some tout-finnois fest...

I wanna see Koneveljet again, too. The last time they rocked hard. They have a new album out, too, though it's got mixed reviews. Their label, Exogenic Breaks Records, has put out some quality compilations as well.

Hulkkonen, on the other hand, I don't necessarily want to see again, or maybe he doesn't want to see me: The last time I nearly spilled some beer on his equipment.
