'Ultra' was pretty good, it still had that Alan Wilder feel to it, but unfortunately Mark Bell couldn't perform miracles with the dross that is 'Exciter'. Very uninspiring album.

Listened to it for the first time last night. Love 'John The Revelator' and the rest is great on first listen...need some more time for it to sink in.
Wondering if there's a subtle ploy by DM's marketing dept to actually put out on to t'internet a low quality version which is good enough to listen to but annoying enough to force you to buy the album when it comes out??? I'll be seriously unchuffed if I buy the album next week and the quality is the same as the version I got...
It's a 192kbps, so I can only assume it was re-encoded at that from a lower resolution source. It sounds really badly compressed and there's no depth to the sound at all...
Have to say as well that the two tracks Dave Gahan has written on Playing the Angel (The Sinner In Me & I Want It All) are arguably better that some of Martin's from the last two albums.
Maybe this is the way forward for them, it would be interesting to hear what the two of them could write together.

Watching Gahan being interviewed for the re-release of the '101' DVD, he mentioned that he's always felt that he's been in Martin's shadow when it came to songwriting and that making his own album proved to himself, Martin and others that he could also write songs...
