Saturday (Ended up being Hexstatic/Autechre night)

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

haha i went in the end :p

I managed to catch the last 25 mins of the Hexstatic set and even less of Phil and Ali after :) Sorry it was brief but i had to go and see those spincycle noise generator with ball bearings type people (Autechre). I was so pleased for you and Dog when Hexstatic finised with the video to you know wot :)

So then i went up to Cambden and met up with Rach, Cheese and Dog (again) ... oh and my brum creative musichead Craig (Alderaan) who i hadnt seen for around 1 1/2 years (he went travelling and just got back).

The actual gig. If it wasnt for Autechre and the dj before them.,..the whole night would have been shite. Some of the crap that was put on before - jeez!

The Dj before Autechre was a tight mixer and his selection pulled some classics out. I've never heard "House Nation" blasting out for years!

As for Autechre. They were on from 3am to 4am! Same setup as earlier in the year but the set has mutated nicely. I saw them in SE1, Manchester and Nottingham this year and found that the melodies and non-beat sounds were lost. This time everything was mixed nicely BUT it just wasnt LOUD enough. Maybe the Manchester show spoilt me because i left that gig with parts of internal organs dragging behind!

I had to attempt to drive to Brum after and made as far as Northampton before crashing out at the service station for a few hours.

p.s. Def too old for this late night crap :) but glad i popped down to see familiar faces as well as the music. Thanx guys.

Hear hear... Hexstatic were amazing. The screen was a giant wall of spray with the visuals being projected from behind. Audio was very good too, for an open air gig and can't wait to see the video footage that was shot. Transfer it to DVD mate ;)

Found Loopz wandering around on the banks of the Thames, he had a quick chat with Phil, Ali etc. and then we departed to head to Camden. If I'd known that the opening acts in Camden were going to be so shite, we could've stayed at the Thames all night! ;)

I have only ever heard someone play 'noise' out in a club before and that was Russel Haswell and we actually walked out. Last night, there was nowhere to go to escape. The band on afterwards stroked their guitars and bass every 10 seconds, generating the same damn chord whilst the drummer hung her arms in the air waiting to strike the skins, resembling an ugly, blonde praying mantis.

Robert Hood was on next and saved the day with a blistering set full of old school choonage, then Autechre took to the stage and played about an hour and a quarter of amazing stuff. Some harsh, some beautiful but as Loopz said, not quite loud enough. You could hear everything, all the melodies, but there was something slightly lacking. Still, bloody good and well worth putting up with all the crap before.

Excellent night, good to see loads of people and will do it again ;)

I won't repeat what Loopz and Dog have written - I can only echo it regarding the Autechre gig! Really enjoyed it but could've been louder

It was so good to see Loopz again (a very tired Loopz I might add!) Hope you get lots of sleep today Poo :)

Sorry (to Phil and Ali) that we didn't get to go to Hexstatic :(
is this a piece of your brain?

We went to Hexstatic too, but thought the spray screen didn't work too well. It was quite breezy which seemed to distort the screen. When the wind dropped, it was great.

We were someway to the left of the screen though, so maybe there was a better view right in front of it? I'd like to know if anyone thought the display was clear.

Quite surreal seeing people throwing shapes to Doctor Pressure on the South Bank!

We were right in front of the screen... Looked pretty good where we were, but it needed bright colours to work really well...

Juice Aleem looked like a ghost hovering above the Thames in the 'Distorted Minds' video...

I need to get an audio copy of the D&B rework of 'Perfect Bird' too :D

Yup, 'Distorted Minds' (presumably the one with real words coming out of the guys mouth) looked really good. In fact the highlight (visually) for us.
