The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

Peel Day - Anniversary Gigs - 13th October

Post by usernick »

From NME:

FIRST EVER 'JOHN PEEL DAY' ANNOUNCED

JOHN PEEL is to be celebrated and remembered in the first ever ‘JOHN PEEL DAY’.

BBC Radio 1 have announced that the event will take place on October 13 with as many venues as possible staging gigs across the UK under the banner of Peel Day.

Prior to this there will be a very special London gig organised by the radio station, with details to be confirmed nearer to the time.

Peel’s wife Sheila Ravenscroft said: “John would have been honoured and fairly amazed that the anniversary is being marked in such a way. He would appreciate that in years to come Peel Day will give new bands across the country the chance to be heard.”

The DJ and broadcasting legend, who had career spanning over 40 years - died on October 26 2004 of a heart attack aged 65. He was on holiday in Peru when he was taken ill.

Radio 1 controller Andy Parfitt said of the event: “Peel Day is about celebrating John’s legacy and his unrivalled passion for music. It’ll be a day of gigs taking place up and down the country, something we feel will be a fitting tribute to John.”

Jason Carter, executive producer of live events on Radio 1, added: “Having spoken to all the major promoters in the UK and many people involved in live music the strength of the feeling for this day has been fantastic, with everyone pledging their support.”

Should be interesting - hopefully there'll be a fair few bands who'll be up for this! :D

Exactly - bollocks to trafalgar.

Wonder if one or more Hartnolls can be persuaded to come out to play?
Slugs! HE created slugs! They can't hear. They can't speak. They can't operate machinery. Are we not in the hands of a lunatic?
