Unless you plug the wires directly into your skull, at the end of the chain is a set of speakers pumping back-and-forth turning ANY signal into analogue waves..."

If you feel brave then i would go for a Wireless ADSL Router. I have one at home and it enables you to connect using UTP at 100mbps if you are seated near it or at G speeds for wireless (obviously your wireless card in your machine needs to be able to talk at G speeds). I can connect from everyroom (and back garden) but obviously it depends on your house/walls/interference.
I say "brave" because you do need to get a bit techie to program the router to auto-connect to broadband and you may get some teething problems using its built in firewall. Thats all part of the fun and when you have the setup right it works like a dream.
If you need more details i can post make, model etc etc.
