One Year on....

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

One Year on....

Post by memly »

Yup this time a year ago I was gearing up to listen to Orbitals last ever gig.
Mr Loopz kindly organised a competition to win tickets to the Maida Vale gig that I (and every single one of my mates that had email) entered... but sadly lost (not through the want of trying though).

To those of you who attended... you lucky lucky lucky bas...people 8)

Instead I got back from the pub and logged onto MSN to share the last ever gig with a few of the other forumites who were unable to get to London.

An emotional rollercoaster ride ensued. Bloody great gig and it even sounded intimate.

Its hard to believe its been a year now. But I'm glad I've carried on posting here. It has lead me to meet quite a few of you now. I dont post on any other forums but there is definately a nice relaxed "atmos" here that keeps me coming back for more.

One year on and the thought of not anticipating another Orbital tour is a real downer. But on the bright side they have played a primary part in my social life and have made me grin more often than I can remember.

Who on earth said..."I'm going to cry" before One perfect Sunrise started?
..and the "I love you long time" quip?
I don't know you people...why are you here?

I'm still sad about the split, though I understand why and applaud them for having the balls to do it. Orbital were a massive part of my musical life since I accidentally stumbled upon them whilst waiting for Pulp to turn up at Glasto 95. Before then I wasn't a "dance music" fan at all in any way shape or form, so that gig completely opened my eyes and ears and for that I'll always be thankful (although still gutted I never saw them in 94, when instead I just wandered around the Glaso site, wondering what to do with myself as I didn't fancy any of the headliners).

Saw them a dozen times in the end, the finest probably being the mighty Royal Albert Hall gig. Have to say I was disappointed with the final date at Brixton. It was just so short at 90 mins, and obviously geared up for the festival circuit. I was, I must confess, expecting a little more.

Anyway, a year on and I'll still raise a glass with a misty eye. Cheers.

Best gig I've ever been to! Just like having Orbital playing in your front room!

I'll never forget it ;)

Was toying with the idea of going along to blag it, but decided against as I'd miss hearing it on the radio if I couldn't get in.

Been told by more than one reliable source that they let everyone in who happened to be there.

Still - they'll never take away the memory of Glasto 95, or the numerous Brixton gigs.

As we used to say at the time - Orbital - GUARANTEED stonker...
Slugs! HE created slugs! They can't hear. They can't speak. They can't operate machinery. Are we not in the hands of a lunatic?

Love you long time quip was either Jof or Sid, I cant remember but it was definately one of those two.
The cheeky bastards was me :D Well proud when I was told of that!

Aye that gig was good un. At least I knew I was going to that one (thanks to Ali Baba and Philmanns) unlike the 2001 Maida Vale gig, when a serious amount of blagging went down.

Now that one really was like Orbital playing in your front room, you even got a special t shirt and a can of coke and it doesnt get much better than that!

I had been an Orbital fan for a while before that, but on that night, I met some truly special people, who were actually into the music as I was and it was a revelation, considering most of my friends didnt even know who they were.
You look real great.

P.s.

I wouldn't have minded having THAT sound system in my living room, think it was the best system I've ever heard them on
(then again the MoN system was quite something)

but then again we would have been able to smoke freely without John Peel telling us off, if we were in a living room
