yea, Gibson is cool, although it's true that especially his books from the 80's and early 90's oscillate today between "futuristic" and "nostalgic". Time turns sci-fi into a parody of itself.
That said, I enjoyed Pattern Recognition very much, more than Neuromancer in fact.
oh, and kvagga, I'm sorry that we didn't get to meet in Helsinki, I've been living in a complete internet blackout for the whole course of June!

btw, you're two years my junior, I think, since I have one year in philology behind me and before that I had my year off. If you get a year's break, DO go somewhere abroad or at least do something fun, because there's no point just doing something silly like just working.
When I find the time I dive back into Haruki Murakami's "Wind-up Bird Chronicle" and as a side dish I am going through the works of Italo Calvino (that's the plan with Murakami too though although this is just my 2nd novel from him).
