Today is the first full moon after the spring equinox. This sunday coming is easter because it falls on the first sunday after the above phenomenon.
When you consider that when this was first used, to the christian churches (the catholic church in particular) astronomy was, and is to this day, an abomination. This is how they still work out the day for their most important festival.
