Help - Party Music
Ok, so I've got a DJ booked for a party. I've given him as basic brief to play in order:
60s motown and soul
70s funk, disco, punk, mod etc
80s new romantic, dance, old skool rave
90s - 2000s dance dance dance!
Anyhoo... he's asked for some suggested tracks.
Obviously I've got shedloads I'd like but anyone feeling up to recomending anything, please feel free....
I'm considering getting him to put a mix on for the last hour, not sure what...
Cheers! Dave.

Slugs! HE created slugs! They can't hear. They can't speak. They can't operate machinery. Are we not in the hands of a lunatic?

Re: Help - Party Music
Hmm, what's the occasion? I'll assume it's a normal party with a mixed crowd rather than some acid rave warehouse reunion!
Turning it into a challenge, if I could only choose one crowd pleasing tune from each of your genres......
Motown and Soul: Martha and the Vandellas - Heatwave
funk: Curtis Mayfield - Move on Up
disco: Queen - Don't Stop Me Now
punk: The Stranglers - Walk on By
mod: The Jam - A Town Called Malice
new romantic: Duran Duran - Rio
80s dance: Inner City - Good Life
old skool rave/acid house: A Guy Called Gerald - Voodoo Ray
90s dance: The Source feat. Candi Staton - You've Got the Love
2000s dance: Rihanna - Don't Stop the Music
Or just play 5 hours of Crazy Frog.

Re: Help - Party Music
Motown and Soul: Can't really have this represented without Stevie Wonder - Superstitous and Jackie Wilson - Higher and Higher
Also suggest Patti Jo - Make me believe in you as per Danny Howells ace essential mix from a few years ago.
Funk: Kool and the Gang - Jungle Boogie
Punk: Iggy Pop - Gimme Danger
Random 80's (brain struggling to categorise stuff) : Kraftwerk - the Model (dub reggae cover), Gary Numan - Music for Chamelons, David Bowie - Let's Dance, A Guy Called Gerald - Emotion Electric - Good call with Voodoo Ray also!
90's Dance: Jaydee - Plastic Dreams, Sunscreem - Perfect Motion, CJ Bolland - Bones, DJ Zinc - Super Sharp Shooter, Touch and Go - Would You go to bed with me (I know- this is a party tho eh
) - confess I was dancing to this at the tiny tea tent at 7am Monday morning this glasto hah. Also! 187 Lockdown - Kung Fu (or swap in Gunman - both a good laugh on the dancefloor
)
00's Dance: Freeland - Heel and Toe, New Order - Crystal(lee Coombs remix), Prodigy - Spitfire (future funk squad remix), Plump DJS - Blackjack
Urg, it's far too hard to narrow things down, just a few suggestions anyway. I'm sure you know what your crowd are after, wasn't sure how far off the beaten path to go. Far too many old classics like papua new guinea, lfo/leftfield/underworld/chems etc to mention, sure you and your DJ are on it
If I had the power I'd be far too tempted to put on something like Analogue Bubblebath by Aphex or this complete beast and hug a speaker or something! Depends on the party I guess!

Re: Help - Party Music
You should add Glam Rock to your 70s selection. A bit of T Rex, Wombles or Slade always goes down well...
