Without Les Paul the solid bodied electric guitar would still be only a bit player in the world of music, instead of the driving force behind so many bands. Between himself and Leo Fender they revolutionised popular music with a robust and cheap instrument of the masses. The only likeness I can draw is with that of Robert Moog and his importance to the synth.

Being an old T Rex fan, the Gibson Les Paul was the first guitar I heard about.
