Re: Guess Orbitals setlist for the big chill here.
Man. Wish i had been just a couple of years older and had my car to have have travelled to those early gigs!
Any others that did get played? Has "Midnight" ever been played live? And i have a feeling that Omen might also have got played at some of those early gigs.
If i had to chose the live track to be played from that list my favs would be:
The Moebius (have mentioned this being played live several times to P & P over the years)
Steel Cube Idoltry
Midnight
Acid Pants (but with a lot less of the "when the laugh track..." sample, it does start to grate a bit)
Beezlebeat
Semi-Detached
Omen (if it has never been played)

Always thought it could be a good idea to come on to the beginning of The Moebius. Have the sample start and then let it keep looping at the "time becomes a loop". Then P&P take positions to finally kick off the track.
Steel Cube Idoltry and High Rise are classics for me as well...
Might have to find the Norwich gig to take in the old stuff

Beelzebeat would give me multiple orgasms.

The Tranquilizer
Macro Head
Untitled (from "Green")
Three more never played.
Untitled from "Green" would be awesome. Love that tune.

2 Deep
One more for the never played live before list.
Can't think of anymore.
Going over this list i've been through a few old live gigs. Been really fun.
As Loopz said the Norwich Sound City gig of 92 is huge fun.
Choice
Fahrenheit 303
Chime Crime
Open Mind (F.A.Mix)
Oolaa
Speed Freak
Awesome early sounds! Would've killed to see these sets. Especially "Oolaa".
Also good is the De Melkweg, Holland 1992 gig:
(Orchestra)
Sunday (sounds great live)
The Naked And The Dead/Dub
Unknown (great work in progress track - sounds like has elements of Walk About and Are We Here? - fantastic tune - also the end of it has an interesting loop of Halcyon over the top of it.)
Halcyon
Walk Now (mixed in from beats of Halcyon and this does have a mental acid 303 ending, like User Name stated the earlier gigs had)
Chime Crime (mixed in from Walk Now, beats continuous, great bridging)
I have to keep saying that Chime Crime sounds fantastic live and a new live version of that with part of the original Chime would sound incredible.

That seems so obvious Loopz I'm amazed they never did it.Loopz wrote:Always thought it could be a good idea to come on to the beginning of The Moebius. Have the sample start and then let it keep looping at the "time becomes a loop". Then P&P take positions to finally kick off the track.

I also think it would be great if they came on stage to 'time becomes a loop' repeating.
With regards to stripping tunes back to the classic versions, I fully agree. I don't think they mean stripping away the live improvised feel to the tunes, I think they are referring to tunes like Halcyon which have developed into a progressive joke that's got a little too carried away, with the whole Belinda Carlisle/Bon Jovi/Darkness samples etc. Better to give these tunes a 'reset' and let them take on a brand new life!
I think it's time to drop Doctor Who as well. Brilliant when I first heard it live but it should have ended with that tour, the whole Doctor Who/Chime ending was getting a bit predictable by 2004. I'm hoping for a bit of fun and some surprises on this new tour, but hoping they stop short of the cheesy gimmicks which tainted their last couple of years (and albums) for me.
I think it's fairly safe money that Chime will either be the very first or very last tune, and I love the idea of mixing into chime crime for a new take on it. Would love to see something from each album with plenty of sniv/in sides era tunes which haven't been played live for a long while, plus the impact/remind combo restored as the end of the main set.
Transient
Lush
Sad but True
Dwr Budr
Are we here?
Out there Somewhere part 2
Way Out
Halcyon
Midnight
Last Thing
Satan (perhaps mixed with Beelzebeat?)
The Naked and the Dead
Impact
Remind
encore:
The Box part 1
The Box part 2
Chime/Chime Crime
I also remember one of the tours (middle of nowhere possibly?) where they were planning to do the whole live set in proper Dolby Digital Surround but didn't quite manage it for some reason. I suppose with their new equipment they'll have to reprogram everything from scratch anyway, there's always a chance.....!

Re: Guess Orbitals setlist for the big chill here.
the sniv tour was in quadraphonic , is that what your thinking of?
i remember a gig , tour before last maybe where they dropped belinda from halcyon, didn't seem right somehow , bit of an anti climax!
but it would be nice to have an element of 'reset' to the whole thing.
still like dr who though!

Re: Guess Orbitals setlist for the big chill here.
I was also for dropping Dr. Who but if it does stay then how about playing it a bit earlier and maybe mix it into a different track than Chime? That would be good and it'd take people by surprise a bit, especially an older tune?
A "reset" is definately what is needed for the tunes. Not sure about the fully stripping back of the tunes to classic versions. I always loved that part of Orbital Live when a new element was added/introduced. Think of the development of Impact over the years? The twist of playing Part 2 first then Part 1 on the 99 Nowhere tour? The intro of the new strings melody over the end of the versions from 2001 onwards? Brilliant.
I just do hope that at least 2 -3 of the tunes that are played are newish to the set. What i mean by that is that we know there will be one completely never before played track (hopefully an early tune like Steel Cube Idolatry or The Moebius) but i hope that maybe 1 or 2 others will be tunes that haven't been played in the last few tours (2001 onwards).
Tracks like:
Lush
Walk Now
Oolaa
Forever
Funny Break (Original album version)
Omen
Dwr Budr
I Don't Know You People
Way Out
The Naked and The Dead
that sort of thing would be great. My main votes go for Lush or Walk Now making a return.

And obviously I'm gonna carry on campaigning for Chime/Chime Crime to be brought to life!
