I've just listened to them back-to-back and, OK... they're not exactly the same tune... but they're very similar indeedily...memly wrote:Still banging on about that similarity... face it Dave you're wrong.davemacfrombath wrote:in no particular order...
You Lot (despite the fact it's the same tune as Weekend Ravers...)
Halcyon (minus t' Darkness but with 'I kissed a Girl' instead)
The Halcyon idea is great though. I def think the Darkness should be substituted for something else, and I like the idea of it being that tune.
Slugs! HE created slugs! They can't hear. They can't speak. They can't operate machinery. Are we not in the hands of a lunatic?

I thought I was the only one who actually likes weekend ravers... I think of it as the runt of the litter, needing someone to stick up for it all the time... except it's not a dog... or a living entity... or, in fact, a dead entity... in fact, why am I finding myself emotionally attached to an abstract collections of sounds?.... could it mean that I'm....? Gah, it's true!tcb2000 wrote:Middle of Nowhere, start to end.

Re: 1hr 30mins - What would YOU play?
alright, here goes mine:
Transient Mixed, halfway with:
Dwr Budr Speeding up into:
Meltdown YES! let the rave madness begin!
Moving on into: Beelzebeat.
[break, phil saying something like, i love you and all]
Monday with Monday [Orchestral] fading in to:
Way out -> going into:
The Box
[Another break, more love]
I Don't know you people Moving into:
The naked and the dead and then:
Remind (With Mindstream vocals)
[last break]
Deeper after which they'll find some way to move into:
Old Style, and then:
Chime
But I don't really like the idea of ending with chime.. again.
Maybe even end with Crash and carry
Was also thinking of a block with:
P.E.T.R.O.L.
Going into a sped up version of The Sinner
ending with the psycho drums from Event Horizon, with the voices
And of course now i miss out on:
Omen
High Rise (in a beefed up version)
Halcyon (with belinda)
Sad but new
Satan.
are we here
Funny Break (weekend ravers).. Weekend ravers is awesome played live btw.
Can't fit them in somewhere...
Can't they do a 3 hour show?

Input Out - looped.

Re: 1hr 30mins - What would YOU play?
Ha! I like the idea of ending with Crash and Carry... so random!
What I would do is revamp their whole catalogue into shape. In order to be relevant in 2009, P.&.P. need to amp up their songs a bit. Their tracks ought to be pumped full of testosterone-fuelled hip hop breaks and MC'ing and live scratching that make no artistic sense but would appeal to the casual, trendy metropolitan youth of 2009. In fact, it could just be one lengthy Amy Winehouse/Hartnoll/Hartnoll collaboration with additional mixing by Paul Oakenfold and, of course, Moby on the turntables with presets circa Play. If possible, drop in a few Timbaland collabs and have Björk sing a duet with a choir of authentic Icelandic whale singers during the climax of Impact. Chime would be completely accapella, of course, with Elton John doing the high-pitched bits and that freaky adult-sounding black kid from youtube "chiming in" on the bass. For the encore, just bring out everybody and see if they can all fit onto the stage. If not, just push the Icelandic whale singers over into the mosh pit and watch the magic happen...
(no, really!)
(... really... mm... maybe I'll just let them do the choosing and planning, yea?)

Replace Winehouse with Duffy and you've got a deal.Kansler wrote:Ha! I like the idea of ending with Crash and Carry... so random!

Re: 1hr 30mins - What would YOU play?
Fantastic. On further thought, perhaps we should just drop P.&P. out of the equation altogether and just do an MTV music awards mash-up of random celebrities and has-beens? Who says Orbital #2 needs to have the same membership as the original ensemble? Just look at 2 Unlimited, another "trance/house" duo of the 90's.davemacfrombath wrote: Replace Winehouse with Duffy and you've got a deal.

Re: 1hr 30mins - What would YOU play?
I hope that Orbital will come out and play a new set list, full of old tunes and drop some of the staples or classics from the set.
All the songs in my set list have been played live, so it's not unreasonable to hear some of these tracks. I did not include Halcyon, The Box, TGWTSIHH or Chime because these have been played to death and they really haven't varied them much besides throwing in a new vocal sample (Halcyon), some bleeps (TGWTSIHH) and a higher pitch melody tweak (Chime) over the last 10 years. If Orbital wasn't headlinging and maybe playing on a smaller stage or earlier, I think it would be real cool to hear them do more of a stripped down, ambient chill set. Playing tracks like Semi-Detached, Attached, Transient and Adnan's, and tracks like Belfast and others, but just not put an emphasis on the beat, really tweak the sounds and such. Anyways, just a thought.
One other question, do you think Orbital is going to change the way they play live this time? Didn't they sell off the majority of their gear? Do you think they might go towards something like using Abelton Live, a la Underworld, where they might have a greater freedom to mix and mangle?
So Here's my set:
1. Walk Now
2. Lush
3. Choice
4. Forever
5. Sad But New
6. PETROL
7. Tootled
8. I Don't Know You People
9. Satan
10. Impact
Encore:
1. Nothing Left
2. One Perfect Sunrise
3. Out There Somewhere pt II
So my set starts off with some old school love, tweaking the 303's on the first two tracks, kickin it up a notch with Choice. Then slow things down, give us a chance to catch a breath with 4 & 5. Then get ready for the heavy, dark stuff. For the encore, it's a nice uplifting feeling. I'd like to hear the end bell melody of OPS transform in to OTS II.

Re: 1hr 30mins - What would YOU play?
Cranks...I like your setlist ideas. Starting off with the droning synthies of Walk Now (the live version with the beats building up) would be an awesome way to start. Began the live DVD nicely.
Glad you chose Choice.
Would completely wreck live....IDKYP is an interesting choice...
I think it would be nice if you should dropped Nothing Left for something shorter so we could hear OTSW in it's entirety. To only hear Pt. II is a little odd.

Out there somewhere part 2.
Would be good to hear an epic version of Chime as well.
20 years. Fuck me that makes me feel old.
The rest - whatever. I wont be able to remember it anyway.

I think there's a 0.0351% chance they will not play chime.
