The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

You can, however, get the US 12"/CD single via http://www.juno.co.uk - who, if you live in the UK, will post it to you the next day!

Good question - I haven't given either the single or album (picked up a promo CD for a fiver - bargain!) a proper listen yet... I do, however, like the Robin Guthrie mixes on the CD single!

I'll second Shadyboy's post, now that I've had a chance to listen to both the EP and album in full and uniterrupted. For me, the title track "Goodbye" is the best song, although I do like "Medusa"!
I'm not that keen (on the first two listens) of the lead track on the "Quicksand Memory" EP ("Look At The Sky"), mainly because it's a bit too harsh (i.e. lots of guitars) for my liking... It'll probably grow with me, especially since I used to like My Bloody Valentine/Ride/Cocteau Twins/etc, just not yet!
Well, mine arrived on Monday and I'm listening to it currently. It's different and yet the same as what we've come to expect, in both good and bad ways...
After two years of listening to and seeing only live gigs, it has taken three listens before I've become used to the vocals; otherwise the music is stunning. It's certainly the most dense sound Schnauss has created. But some tracks suffer for not being purely instrumental - particularly 'Shine' and 'Stars'. After those early tracks however, the voices are muted, and the music stronger. From 'Here Today, Gone Tomorrow' through to 'Goodbye' is some of the most epic, emotive music he has written. While none stand out like 'In All The Wrong Places' did, they grow on one slowly, and may take on classic status after being lived with for a while.
Finally, its best not to mention '...For Good', the album closer, which was clearly the result of keeping the peace at home with Judith - did John & Yoko teach you nothing, Ulrich?
"Shine" would've been better without the sugary baritone of Rob McVey, no doubt about that.
I disagree about "Stars" though, it's easily the catchiest track on the album, and as close to a pop hit song as Ulrich has ever got. It should get a Sasha remix treatment for the clubs, just like "On My Own"!
I do agree that from "In Between The Years" onwards the album becomes a tightly constructed emotional rollercoaster that really defies any criticism!
This is one of my fav releases so far of 2007, next to Paul's!! It is just beautiful, but I do have to agree though on the last track "For Good", just not as good as the rest of them, I am just hoping it will grow on me!
Saw him live in Bristol on Saturday which was nice Although when i got there it was sold out but luckily the great man had put me on the guest list but didnt tell me (i think i deserve that name spawny even more now eh Nich ). Packed small room but sounded as lush as ever although he had to cut his set by one cus of the curfew. Finally met up with him for the first time ever and gave him one of my cds (poor sod). Go see him live if you havent!
