I remember watching Bernard on a late night phone in on the James Whale show in the 80's.
One caller rang and said "Bernard, I'd just like to say...............that you are a big fat bastard" and hung up
Bernard looked into the camera with a wry smile and said "Yes son, but I'm a big fat rich bastard" - classic!

Unfortunately Dave, you've got it wrong again.

A hatefull racist cnut would target only a limited section of the community based on their race, wheras a good comedian will rip the shit out of anyone based on any particular stereotype that suits the gag, as Manning did. That's the thing with humour - it's great when everyone cops it, but some people are just toooooo sensitive.

I'm a fat, arrogant bastard, & so take all the associated jokes. There are very few people in this world who don't have a characteristic that can be used for humour. The funniest Jewish jokes I ever heard were from the Directors of an orthodox Jew run company that I worked for & the funniest "Paki" jokes I heard were from a friend who was born in Pakistan. Those were people who were completely comfortable with who they are, & so let rip on everyone (including themselves) for good humour.

Humour is great because it can be used to bring EVERYONE down. I get it for being fat & ugly, my brother gets it for looking 100 years older than me, Cheese gets it for having a sand blasted head & driving shit cars & you get it for being.....well....You; & that's the point, good humour targets people - all people, whatever is the stereotype or characteristic that suits, but that doesn't make it racist.

Muke - you make a good point. But the problem is that Manning did it with conviction and was always without remorse. You just got the feeling that he really was a racist, sexist tw@t. And he never denied it either!

Yeah, but as Muke said, he aimed the vitriol at everyone... He never singled anyone out. Everyone was equal in his eyes. Granted, he said some offensive things, but they were levelled at everyone...

Still doesn't make sense - are suicide bombers OK because they don't care who they kill, regardless of race, colour, religion, sexuality?
