ulrich schnauss update

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

Good news about the album. I just hope now that my own sense of anticipation does not lead to disappointment.

There is a last year gig bootleg floating around a certain p2p network, where 6 out of 7 tunes are new. They're all amazing, I had tears in the eyes and an idiot's smile when listening to them for the first time!

Big news by you guys! Thanks for that!

Other news:

Who said that?

Latest message from Ulrich (via Myspace):

hello,
thanks for taking the time to read this - apologies for the everlasting silence throughout the last half year. i had a very precise idea about what the third album was supposed to sound like - while this usually is a good thing it became increasingly

Ulrich Schnauss // Robin Guthrie EP

Post by fluorescence n' froth »

Hello,

Happily, the collaborative fruits of Ulrich Schnauss and Robin Guthrie are to finally see the light of day shortly, when their EP emerges through Independiente.

Scheduled for a late March / early April release, the four tracker, led by sumptuous reworks of Gone Forever and On My Own, is planned to only be available on an exclusive, lavishly designed 12", strictly limited to 500 copies.

Followers will recognise that Robin has chosen to focus his audio alchemy on songs lifted from Ulrich's previous LP A Strangely Isolated Place (City Centre Offices/Domino) and has in fact returned to overhaul his previously unreleased remix of On My Own, a rarity aired on Radio 1's The Blue Room + XFM's Remix show in the past.

This special EP acts as a precursor to Ulrich's much anticipated third album Goodbye, due for release in May, on Independiente in Europe, and Domino in the US.

Enjoy :)

Oh, come on. That's just asking for the whole thing to be widely pirated over p2p. Make it available through MP3 downloads at least!

While we're at it, being able to purchase MP3s of Ulrich's recent remixes, particularly the uber-majestic Howling Bells track, would be great too.

I'm sure Bella Union included Ulrich's remix of Setting Sun as an exclusive track on the downloadable version of the single anyhow.

I know about the DRMd itunes download. It's not an option as neither my non-Apple portable music player, nor my Linux PC can handle it. I want to have full control over music that I pay for. I specifically wrote about this to Bella Union, and they said they plan to open their own shop with unlocked MP3s, but they don't know when.

There is some pre-ordering information on a CD single and the "Goodbye" CD at Indepndiente's shop here and the CD single is available to pre-order from Amazon UK (30th April release date) here

So the album has been pushed back to June 18th and the EP to May 21st. I hope this is the last, firm date. But Independiente's website still says absolutely nothing about the album or artist - what kind of promotion is this? Ulrich might as well sell mp3s directly from his website.

The EP is apparently called "Quicksand Memory Ep" (well, that's what Amazon are listing it at)...

"The Quicksand Memory EP will be released through Independiente in the UK and Domino in the US on May 21. Two new tracks from this have been uploaded; Medusa and Look at the Sky.

Ulrich's third album Goodbye will be released soon after. Shine - taken from the album has also been uploaded."
