FSOL - The Synthesis of new 'Life Forms' in surround sound

Post by usernick »

I doubt whether I can go to this, as it's on a Tuesday evening at 6pm, and I'll probably be in Telford that night... :cry:

======

From Kinetica website:

NOVEMBER 14th – Upper Gallery, 6pm
FSOL (Future Sound of London): ‘The synthesis of new 'Life Forms' in surround sound’
Pioneering electronic composers FSOL have teamed up with surround sound guru Rodney Orpheus from DTS, Procella audio systems and Yamaha to create a specially constructed piece of 3-D audio-architecture specifically commissioned for Kinetica's 'Life Forms' launch exhibition.

-----------

MUSEUM OF KINETIC ELECTRONIC AND EXPERIMENTAL ART

Set strikingly against the backdrop of the old Spitalfields Market in London's East End, Kinetica celebrated its inaugural opening on October 5th. The launch received nationwide TV coverage on both the BBC and Channel 4.

Kinetica is the UK's first museum of kinetic art. It will actively encourage the convergence of art and technology, providing an exhibition space in central London where the most important examples of kinetic, technological and electronic art, both past and present, can be properly stored and displayed.

Our vision is to create both a historical and contemporary art collection of seminal and cutting-edge multi-disciplinary works that date back from the 1920s through to the present day, focusing on the pioneering and influential importance of such works.

I was there!

The Lifeforms exhibition has finished now but basically FSOL created the soundscape for it. All very haunting and minimal with spikes of noise. It was quality to hear some new stuff!

The actual talk consisted of Gaz Cobain rambling on about the history of FSOL/Amorphous Andgrogynous and how everyone needs to 'get off the grid'. Was a bit worried when he started but suddenly 2 hours went by and I was quite excited about the news the FSOL is back (no more Amorphous for now) and they have a new album out soon recorded entirely in surround.

This month's "Future Music" magazine features an interview with FSOL and a DVD which shows "the whys and hows behind creating the Ambient Forms track for the Kentic exhibition" (in 5.1, apparently)...

Haven't watched it yet, because I don't have access to a DVD player in Telford...
