Best free album download of 2006 - Maus - Overwinning

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

Best free album download of 2006 - Maus - Overwinning

Post by stimpee »

Last year I was plugging Esem's Scateren album to high heaven and I thought it was just brilliant and thankfully so did you. Well, this is the best free album i've downloaded since then and its also not been on my playlist as much since I downloaded the great Electromagnetic radioshow by The Village Orchestra. This one is a repeated listen after repeated listen kind of album. Anyway, I'll stop waffling and get on with it.

Its called Overwinning by Maus and its a fantastic blend of Orbital beats and Plaid bleeps with layers of fantastic melody that carry you off the floor a few inches. Its on a Dutch label called Urlauten and the page for the tracks is here. All the track titles are Dutch for some reason although Maus is from Los Angeles :) He said that he purposely chose this label for release so maybe he titled the tracks accordingly in wonderful dutch!

I've taken the last 10mins typing out this thread so the very least you can do is check out the music either by listening to the tracks on the page or by downloading the zip of the whole album on the album page.

Just be sure to come back here and let me know what you think! Trust me on this one, its really great.

Isn't this the same Maus who used to be on this forum? A lot.

That's what I was wondering when I read the thread title.

& Stimpy's advice on Scateren was so good I'll be grabbing Overwinning. right away.

Yeah i've already got this :) Always liked his music and that much so that i passed one of his cds onto Plaid for him a couple of years back! If you like Plaid then you should like any of his stuff. He is also on Myspace :)

This stuff is crazy awesome. I just wish I knew Dutch better. What is "Drietal"? Triangle?

The little Mexican-sounding ditty Vergeten is tits. I can't get it out of my head.

hey!

wow... i was actually stopping by to see what was up on the loopz forums and happened upon this thread. super happy that everyone is enjoying the album! and thanks a million stimpee for furthering the cause!

i'm taking a bit of a respite from 'maus' stuff for the moment, but even as i say that there's a pile of new stuff in the works. and i'm doing a live show out here in LA this evening as well. that's a first. i've done 'dj sets' of a sort, but this is the first "live" show.

anyways, thanks for everyone's kind words, really. it means a lot. =)

and loopz... i swear to the jesus, i have a package for you in the back of my truck which goes all over LA with me. but it's hefty so i keep putting off mailing it. i promise to get it on the way to you soon.

rock on,
c
