Paul Hartnoll - Ignition

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

Mate, as if I'd post a link here to commercially available material...

Besides, I haven't got it any more. I checked out the page, saw there was nothing new on it that I didn't already have and promptly forgot about it...

I gotta say, that I think that every song Paul has put out after the unfortunate split, has been amazing. :D Just the type of stuff I want to hear. I really hope he releases a solo album soon. The only thing I would criticize is, that the drums seem a bit weak on all the songs (and I mean that literally, as IMO they need a bit moore oomph at the low end). Guess that was more Phil's thing when they were still Orbital...

And please continue the poop conversation. Nothing's more enjoyable than a bit of good ol' excrement-talk. :)

kvagga, I concur completely... I'm loving Paul's works, but I think he's gonna HAVE to work on those drums.

I think he could take them to several different directions: plump dj's type mayhem (with more of that OOMPH, yea) or maybe more towards IDM-structures like in "Lost" or stuff from Sniv (I remember he did Science Friction by himself?).

I would prefer more weirdness, but let him do what he likes.

Or he just should do more remixes.. because that JMJ - aerology remix did have enough OOMPH as you put it :)

I have no idea as to who did what in Orbital. I always imagined that Phil was more rhythm and Paul was more melody.
It will be very interesting to see how similar their outputs are gonna be, if at all.

i read somewhere that main writer was Paul and Phil was something like sound engineer, to make the tracks sounds better.

Interesting comments about the drums. I think Paul is more geared towards soundtracks/scores where beats/drums are just not that important. Having heard 6/7 demo/tracks i would say that he is being a bit more experimental with his beats rather than using the same old sounds. I prefer this direction myself.

I think the comments are't levelled at the drum programming, more the lack of low end punch from the kick drum etc.

I'm going to have to re-EQ the track to record the DJ set and play it out...
