I saw this last night and decided to read around the various forums about what people thought about it. The majority are disgusted that it was made saying its only been 4 1/2 years etc.

Anyone else seen it ? thoughts ?

haven't seen it, was surprised when i saw a trailer for it tho - i don't have the slightest problem in principle with it being made (except if it turns out to be crap

), but it was fairly obvious that a lot of people would, and it would lead to a lot of controversy.
oh well, controversy sells, all publicity is etc...
so was it any good?

I would like to see this film. A similar thing about this particular flight was on Discovery channel a few weeks back.

I dont see that its a bad thing as the families of some of the victims families agreed into letting the film be made as a tribute to their loved ones.

To be honest i thought the film was very good. The film appears to focus on the United 93 flight but for me it focused on the whole sept 11th event. I found the goings on in the various air traffic control centres just as interesting as the plane scenes.

A few people i spoke to agreed that its one film they cant change the ending or grant a romance or generally hollywood up. Thats a relief in itself!

Be interested to hear what people think of it if they do see it.

Not seen it but want to and have read quite a bit about it. Strangely tho, nothing negative so was surprised your search on the web did.

The w/e before last there was a piece in the Guardian's Weekend magazine: it was interviews with relatives of the passengers and their reactions to the film. While I was having a look to see if I could find it on the web I found this review http://arts.guardian.co.uk/filmandmusic ... 13,00.html

I've just got in from seeing this film and it still shocks me that this happened nearly 5 years on.

I cant see why people are kicking up a stink. I think it shows the victims of united 93 in the most greatest way possible, how very brave they all were even though they knew it was a possibility they were going to die.

At least it wasnt bastardized by being made into a hollywood blockbuster starring Tom Cruise, although it wouldnt surprise me if its in the making.

Very well filmed, even though you know what happens it still captures a little of what happened that terrible day.

Yes i was just as shocked to read the negative comments. TBH the forums i frequent have some real idiots on there who post for a reaction. I guess this forum and its members has set the high standards that the others are just not meeting.

and i must say i was kinda disgusted.

haven't seen the film but it feels to me like another "we are strong, america" thingies.. it was a terrible thing that happend. but to make such a movie out of it.. i dunno...

I just found out that there is another film coming out called World Trade Centre.

That twat Nicholas Cage is the lead role

United 93 was documentary drama type thing, not a full blown Hollywood blockbuster.

Pooka - yeah thats the Oliver Stone film. I think that might be a bit sickly!

Timbob - Go watch the film (i havent seen the trailer) and see what you think then. It didnt give me the pro-america impression apart from the fact that it was in america

the idea of the film makes me uneasy, but in a way i'm glad of that. it's better than being numb to what happened (and what has happened since and before.......). i think i'll go see it if i get the chance (or rent it).

the oliver stone version............. i might give that a miss.

Just got back from seeing the film and trust me guys, its INCREDIBLE. Go see.
Moving outside of any debate on whether or not it should've been made (which I wasn't to sure about myself actually) having seen it, I really can't see how it can stand as anything other than a tribute to the people that died on the United 93 flight.

Believe me it's not cheezy entertainment...were talking very sensitive and intelligent scripting blurring the lines between drama and documentary style and about as real as I think any film could hope to get about an event where we have no survivors to tell the story. Its just so...REAL.

It was made with heavy input from the families of those lost on the plane and the calls they made to their loved ones, but steers well clear of any flag waving politics or ridiculous heroics. Its just about ordinary people who, on a totally normal day in their lives, suddenly found themselves dealing with a horrible and utterly baffling crisis. It even features the real-life head of airtraffic USA, who made the decision to ground all flights, actually playing himself which further blurs the line between fact and fiction - he'll certainly remember what happened around him that day.

It does, briefly and with good cause, use the footage of the Twin Towers that was seen all over the world - I've never heard a cinema go so quiet.

If you saw the excellent Hamburg Cell on TV this is very similar, but shifts the focus from the terrorists to the people forced to cope with the violence.

Rather oddly it was written and directed by an Englishman and shot in the UK.

Just go and see it.
