Blue Monday - New Order

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

Blue Monday - New Order

Post by andyneilg »

Maybe an anorakky question, but does anyone know if New Order's Blue Monday has ever been digitally remastered on any of the cd's its been on? I've got the original 12" vinyl and the Substance 1987 collection but listening with headphones it could really do with 'cleaning up' like they do with other acts now like Pet Shop Boys, Blondie etc. My Frankie Goes To Hollywood SACD sounds like it was recorded yesterday its so clear so just wondered if that great drum intro exists in a verson that doesn't sound so mushy.

Yeah, I think this is right.

I had a major headache when sampling 'Blue Monday' for an as yet unreleased bootleg. Even on CD, the early versions are as hissy as hell...

"Singles" *may* have the missing intro (I seem to remember this being mentioned on Neworderonline) - I would go and have a listen, but it's not immediately available at the moment... If not, it's definitely on one of the recent 12" reissues that's just come out, although, obviously, that's vinyl-only!

As for remastering, yeah, their whole back catalogue is due a remaster (with extra tracks) - something that I have a feeling Warners will end up doing (if they have any financial sense, that is)! :P

A shame New Order can't make records even half that good anymore.
