Albert Woolley played for Aston Villa between 1892 and 1895. This period was a successful time for the club and it included Aston Villa's first league title win in the 1894 to 1895 season. Other honours for this period included the Staffordshire Senior FA Challenge Cup (1893 and 1894), Lord Mayor of Birmingham Charity Cup (1892/1893 and 1894/1895), Birmingham & District League Champions (1894/1895) and West Midlands League Champions (1894/1895).

The club played at the Perry Barr ground on Wellington Road and had no problem filling the stands every Saturday. The Evening Mail on occasions mention the vast amounts of carriages making their way to the ground every week. These were the good times and unfortunately Woolley was to leave the club the season before Villa achieved the first ever league double!

The image is taken from the Birmingham Central library archives. It shows a map of the Perry Barr ground as it was in 1895. Both the Birchfield Road and Wellington Road still exist but there is now a series of shops where the pitch would have been.
