The Evening Mail reports on the sale of Woolley

"Derby County FC have engaged three new players. They are MacFarlane of Leith Athletic, Stephenson of Kilburnie and Woolley, who has been playing outside left wing with Aston Villa. Negotiations with the Villa terminated satisfactorily on Wednesday, when the authorities of that club agreed to transfer Woolley who will be available to play in the match against Wolverhampton on the 26th"

During the Villa match review, the Evening Mail states

“The Villa have transferred Woolley to Derby County, a team badly in want of good men. With Dorrell available as reserve , the Villa had no use for another outside left, it does not pay to keep three first-class men for the one position. We hope Woolley will do well with his new team. He should do, he is undoubtedly a clever footballer, but he never seemed to get over his exclusion from the first eleven. In fact we have an idea that he sulked a little. It is a big blow to any man and disappointment was only natural”

Evening Mail indicates that "They (Wolves) had fairly beat the County players although the latter had threatened their team by the inclusion of Woolley, late of Aston Villa"
The report also indicated that "Woolley was left out in the cold by his companions" and that Dunning, Reynolds and Russell of Villa didn't play because they "bunked" again.
Birmingham Evening Mail

26th January continued (Manchester Guardian)...

"...and Woolley turned out in the County colours"
"Winning the toss the County attacked and Woolley nearly beat Hassall in the first minute".

"The county equalised within a couple of minutes, Woolley putting on the finish touch"
Manchester Guardian

26th January continued (Derby Daily Telegraph)...

"The county were at once in evidence and Woolley a minute from the start shot in a beauty, which Hassell had the greatest difficulty in saving".

"Baugh kicked away, but Keay gave nicely to Woolley and the new-comer signalised his first appearance in the eleven by equalising in grand style with an effort which was irresistible"

"Then again at the other end Green had to fist away from Griffin but the County came once more and from a fine centre by Woolley, John Goodhall headed over."

"Green twice had to run out and although the County once got away Docherty and Woolley between them spoilt the effort"

"...although Francis made a good attempt to convert a good centre by Woolley."

"Derby County again attacked and added by some clever work by Docherty, Woolley and Keay got within range but the kicking out tactics which the leaders were now adopting, rendered failed all endeavours to score."

"Woolley, the Aston Villa recruit, made a favourable first impression, his opening run down and centre being very promising. He Maintained this form only slightly, but in saying that he was not seen to the best advantage we are only making a remark which will apply with equal force to the rest of the forwards."

The Evening Mail name the team that will play Villa in the F.A.Cup but Woolley is not named. This indicates that he was injured/ill or maybe they exercised the cup-tie rule in those days. More investigation required.

Bit of confusion on this match as Manchester Guardian has no mention of Woolley but does mention McQueen. The Derby Daily Telegraph lists the team playing against Liverpool on their previous Wednesday "Notes on outdoor sports" column. As you can see they list Woolley and don't even mention McQueen!
