uhm i'm moving my website, which isn't anything important, but if i can i'd like to be able to transfer the photo gallery straight to my new host rather than re-upload it with all the setting up and fannying about, not to mention slower transfers...
my new host (qiq.co.uk) has a web interface for file transfers, which even has options to transfer stuff from another ftp site, but that would seem to be on a file by file basis, it won't take a directory name and get on with all the contents... i do of course have ftp access to my new host, and to my old host.
i've tried using the ftp client i normally use, flash fxp, to transfer from one to the other, but it's not having it... if the upload to the new host is set to be not passive, then it says illegal port command or something (...?), and if upload to the new host is set to passive, then it sits there and thinks about it for unnecessarily long before timing out.

bored yet? flash fxp's help has config tips for particular ftp daemons, i haven't gone as far yet as determing what's running on the new host except that it's a linux server. i'll probably look into that... anyway i could do with getting this sorted before about friday, but even if i don't it's not the end of the world, it'll just mean i need to reconfigure & re-upload all those photo galleries at a much slower speed. mmm cheers :D :?

...yeah me again, sorry if you're bored already...
i guess the other thing that could help me would be specific instructions to archive (with tools that would already be set up on both servers) a particular directory and all its contents into a file, and decompress it again.
muh having written that, i'd like to think i'd be able to do it myself at a push, but... let's just say that my current state would mean that would take longer than it normally should, and also i'm busy because it's my girlfriend's half term (she's a teacher, before you ask :P ).... so as my time to get this done coincides with the time i have to spend with my girlfriend, given a choice i'd rather spend it with her than scratching my chin. uhm thanks

i use flashfxp but to be honest i prefer just to upload my content from my machine (i always have a copy of the 1.6 gigabytes loopz site on my laptop). Speak to your new hosts if you are struggling as it will be the setup their end rather than a flashfxp problem.
