Unless my memory fails me (& that's more than likely), you mentioned that you had seen the Australian Pink Floyd. I'm booked to see them in London soon, so what can I expect? The clips on their web site look very true to the original!


In the aparent absence of the original from now on, I have been regularly enjoying Think Floyd who are excellent musically, but I think that the Austaralian lot have a much bigger budget & seem to have the lights to match the real thing.

I'm looking forward to it anyway, but I'd be interested in your thoughts if you have seen them before.

I saw the Aussie Pink Floyd a few times years back. They're very tight, but not the most inventive band I've ever heard...

For example, at Glastonbury one year they played Careful With That Axe, Eugene, which is a perfect opportunity for some wig-out improvisation in the style of Pink Floyd. But they didn't. They copied the live recording of the track from Ummagumma NOTE FOR NOTE. Which is kind of gay if you ask me. I didn't go to see them copy Pink Floyd, I went to see them play Pink Floyd songs. Especially the improvised stuff - I wanted some improvisation, not some people pretending to improvise.

But they sounded very good, they had their own versions of all the voices and sound effects (with Aussie accents!) and it made me laugh when they sang "Shoiiiine on, you craiiiiizy diamond!" in an Aussie accent, even though they were clearly trying very hard not to.

This was 10 years or more ago, so they may be completely different by now.

PS. Best Pink Floyd "tribute" thing I've seen is the Pink Floyd Experience from New Zealand. They did the whole of The Wall live, complete with 10 actors, a giant wall being built across the stage, and their own interpretation of the storyline. Brilliant stuff, and way better than The Wall movie.

I have to say that, for me, I'm glad to hear that they try to reproduce the Floyd sound exactly, so I'm looking forward to it very much now.

Saw them last night & was blown away! I appreciate your comments some time ago about wanting some variations on the Floyd theme, but I just loved the accuracy of the sound & lighting. It really took me back to Earls Court in 1994.

I would, of course, love to see the real thing again, but as that seem highly unlikely I think that this is as close as any Pink Floyd fan is ever going to get again.

I can't recommend them highly enough.

I was going to go, but decided to save my cash and go to Roger Waters and Dave Gilmour concerts instead. They've each got one of the other Floyd members playing with them, so it's like seeing two mini-Pink Floyds.
