Anybody heard the new Massive Attack single??
It called Live With Me and i'm totally blown away.
After one listen, its totally "Wow".

They've got a new album coming out in March, a greatest hits type thing called Collected, which will have a dvd with it as well with unreleased tracks and possibly the videos on.
The video to it was on last night, if you want to see and listen to it here's the link.

Will look out for it Melvis - but I thought that the 'collected' videos came out a few years ago. In fact, I've got the DVD myself....!

Yup, 'Collected' will be a singles compilation that comes with a DVD of all their singles to date (I think the previous compilation excluded some of the more recent ones?).

I also know that they're also working on a new album that's due to be released at the end of the year, so it should be a productive year for Massive Attack - yay! :)

Good news indeed. :)
Just hope the next album is better than 100th Window, which was only fair to middleing imo

It's ok - a Blue Lines/Protection type vibe but nothing earth shattering, typical tacked on "new tune on greatest hits" thing.

Always had a love/hate thing with Massive Attack - love the Mezzanine stuff and hate the coffee table stuff!

Live With Me is definitely one of these ultra symphonic MA epics. The video is very dark too. Like Protection, yes.

I honestly haven't listened much to their albums from beginning to end, but they've produced enough good material in the past to make me want to get this new CD/DVD.

Might get the greatest hits thing... Massive Attack have never really grabbed me, although seeing them at Creamfields a couple of years ago was amazing...

Massive Attack could fart into a microphone and I'd still love it.

Rich, I think the dvd may include the eleven promos dvd as well as some live stuff and rare bits.
I also read that apart from Collected, a new album would be out as well but I'm not sure if thats true.

I cant imagine Massive Attack putting out a greatest hits collection merely to rake in money, thats not their style. I can only assume its on the back of the live stuff and rare bits which a die hard fan probably would only be interested in.

Legspin, 100th Window I guess was perhaps their weakest yet, I liked it a lot but I felt it was really dark, much darker than Mezzanine. Sinead O Connor didnt help matters much by warbling on about the Soham murders.
One of my favourite MA tracks however is on that album.

I've not been dissapointed by anything they have released, although i do think the departure of Mushroom was a shame.

I really liked 100th Window, I agree its darker than Mezzanine, broody as hell

Isn't Massive Attack just one guy now?

I don't think the single is up to much, although they have done some class gear in the past.

I *think* that Mushroom is rejoining them for the new album...

mmm i heard that 100th window was pretty much done by just the one guy (3d? if memory serves, which it usually doesn't... )
but that the others hadn't left permanently, they just weren't involved then...

Well its strange, apparantly Daddy G wasnt involved with 100th Window at the time because he'd just had a kid but he's been on stage with them at the last gigs I went to so perhaps he's back with 3D for this project.
I think Mushroom has long gone :(

Its a shame coz some of 3D's vocals on 100th are a bit weak. You could say Horace Andy is in MA because he's appeared on all the albums but I think he's still classed as a guest.

Yup, I probably meant Daddy G as opposed to Mushroom - put it down to late night posts! :P

This was the NME story re: new album:

"Massive Attack reveal new album details
And there's a Greatest Hits in the pipeline too
Massive Attack's fifth album will be called 'Weather Underground'.

The Bristol band have completed seven tracks for the album with long-term collaborator Neil Davidge producing.

The band have been splitting their time between Bristol and New York where they have been collaborating with TV On The Radio. A release date is set for February 2007.

Preceding this, the band are set to release 'Collected', a double-CD best of, on March 27.

The compilation will be preceded by a single 'Live With Me' featuring Terry Callier, set to be released on March 13.
