John Peel Night - tonight from 9pm on BBC Four

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

John Peel Night - tonight from 9pm on BBC Four

Post by usernick »

A year ago to the day since his death, and BBC Four are showing a number of programmes in memory of John Peel tonight - sounds like a good excuse to stay in front of the TV for a couple of hours tonight! :D

21:00 John Peel Tribute

Dear John: A night of programmes to mark the first anniversary of the legendary broadcaster's death starts with a host of friends, colleagues and musicians remembering the man. [S]

21:30 The Fall

The Wonderful and Frightening World of Mark E Smith: A look at John Peel's favourite band. Part of BBC FOUR's John Peel Night. Strong language. [S]

22:30 John Peel in Session

An archive trek through some of the names that John Peel backed on his Radio 1 show. With performances from legendary bands Pink Floyd, Joy Division and The Smiths. [S] Part of John Peel Night.

00:00 BBC FOUR Session: PJ Harvey

A special concert from rock chick PJ Harvey at LSO St Luke's in London. Her set includes Big Exit, Dress and The Letter. Part of BBC FOUR's John Peel Night. Strong language. [S]

01:00 Teenage Kicks: The Undertones

John Peel presents a look at the short but eventful career of The Undertones, the band behind his favourite single, Teenage Kicks. Strong language. [S] Part of BBC FOUR's John Peel Night.

01:40 Chambre Hardman and the...

...Lost City of Liverpool: Narrated by John Peel, who himself came from Merseyside, a documentary about city photographer Edward Chambre Hardman. Part of BBC FOUR's John Peel Night.

the BBC website lists these programmes as being on tomorrow not tonight. Weird. Coulda sworn he died 1 year ago today.

Will watch this tonight.

He did indeed die on the 26th. Kathryn bought me Margrave Of The Marshes (Peel's semi-completed autobiography) for my birthday yesterday and I checked in there....
