Best DM album since Violator? Wouldn't that be Songs of Faith and Devotion?
The new one is very good -- far better than what I was expecting anyway. Definitely better than Exciter, probably better than Ultra.
That's one thing I have learned with DM's last two albums: it's very easy to get excited about their new stuff upon the first listening, but the truth of the matter is I don't listen anymore to Ultra or Exciter.
I'm not trying to argue with anybody here, just giving my two cents. I will buy this CD -- like I bought every other CD they've made. But for the quality verdict, only time will tell.

i'm probably getting far too excited!!
i didn't think songs of faith and devotion was as instantly satisfying as playing the angel, maybe it's just relief that it isn't another exciter
but as you say time will tell, but i haven't been able to take it out of my cd player for the last 3 days... so it's looking good so far

Well at the very least its definitly as good as SOFAD. Certainly blows Ultra and exciter out of the water.
Tunes like: Lilian, A pain that I'm used to and The sinner in me, are all incredibly good in my book.
I can see that Depeche Mode are becoming the Rolling Stones of Electronic music (however, unlike the Stones, Modes later music is relevant and good).
All in all, a very satisfying album and one i'll definitly purchase
ricky
*disclaimer:- I'm actually a big fan of 60's/70's Stones

I've been offered a poor quality MP3 copy and turned it down because I want to be able to take it in properly when it's out on Monday.
I must say that 'Precious' is definitly Violator-esque in it's sound and for me 'Violator' has always been the best thing DM have ever produced, better than 'Black Celebration', 'Music for the Masses' and 'Songs of Faith and Devotion'. I am genuinely excited about hearing this album!
