Legspin: I presume this is the old SFX. I thought that place was closed down. Do you know what the story is with it??????

Ricky, yes it is. It is stll being used but mainly as a rehearsal and show production space. Not 100% sure if MCD. still own it.

Its a pretty good venue, the immediate area its in is a bit of a shit-hole though.
Last time i was there was to see Primal Scream (promoting Vanishing Point) & Asian Dub Foundation. Wicked Gig!!
Me wants to see Lackluster again.
I love his studio stuff and only saw him perform for the first time a few months ago (he was supporting Ovuca & Cylob). His live set was very impressive, I might add.

I heard that this was moved from the original venue (a castle in Co. Wicklow) because the last time the promoters had a gig there some damage was done to the property. So this time they are going to deck the venue out as a castle.
The SFX. was for years the only largish (1500 people originally) venue in Dublin. It was originally a hall owned by the Jesuits, hence the full name, St. Francis Xavier, a missionary who was martyred in Asia. They still have a mission house right next door. When you then consider some of the debauchery that has gone on.....
The loudest gigs I have seen were here (My Bloody Valentine, where people were getting sick from the sheer volume, and Slayer), the first indoor gig I worked at was here (Black Crows) and one of the strangest (Phish, two nights, 750 American teenagers with Daddy's credit cards and about 12 Irish punters on both nights).
I haven't worked there in about 3 years and can't remember who last I saw there

No, I couldn't get out of work until about 1.30, and by that time I just wanted my bed

.
However, the Claro Intelecto gig may be a goer.
