Paul Hartnoll Interview & 2 New Tracks

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

Of course, if Orbital are planning to release these tracks on an upcoming album, then the link should be removed immediately!

it's quite a hot debate at the moment isn't it? funny how things are now. if you play something on the radio its streamed on line then picked over then distributed , it's just the way of things now . hard to know where the rules stand on it ( not of this site just moraly in general ), it's great that you enjoy it so much you bother to record it .it's not like you can go out and buy it at the moment anyway. i know i used to record the chart run down when i was younger...a few years ago, ahem.
to be fair if you play some thing on the radio you know this will happen anyway, i'm just curious as to where it will all lead , i personally have no idea!
but some body has to pay the piper eventually

We will!

Though nowadays it's not about record sales (so we're told!), it's about live shows and merchandise apparently!

I'd pay for these tracks in a heartbeat. It's been too long since I've even had the option to purchase brand spankin' new Orbital!

I noticed a couple imperfections in my rips, so I've re-uploaded the tracks if anyone cares to download them.

Well I'll buy that for a dollar! (not in the literal sense of course, I was referring to the classic Paul Verhoveon movie Robocop  ),

PM'ed you Iced.

Loving the Gun is Good...Great tune!

Interesting pre-debate happening here, I studied a bit about copyrighting in the '90s but I havent a clue about it nowadays.
I think any live or unreleased material is ok to duplicate for ones own personal enjoyment... it probably isnt from a legal point of view, but if you cant physically purchase the product because it is not available then its tough titties on the Record label/artists involved.

...Although I suppose I could burn the 2 new tracks and stick some of my dodgy remixes on a CD and flog it on Ebay as the "About Fuckin Time" EP. 8)

I'm never quite sure on who is the copyright holder on say a radio station. But in my simple mind, if its played on air, especially if its like a concert, then I would assume it would also be fine for me to rip the gig. I suppose you would have to seek permission from the copyright owner (is this the artist/record company/ event or station?), but who in their right mind would go to all that hassle.

I'm still quite old school and I like to have an album in my hand full with inlay cards and lists of people who the band thanks etc.

I always purchase the product (cd) if I like the album/songs etc.

I even use I-tunes to download songs if I want to mess around and sample them.

By the Way if Paul or Phil is reading this, then the bit about the EP was a joke...

And yes I realise I spelled Mr Verhoveon name wrong, but I cant be arsed wiki'ing him. I'll just wait for Timbobo to correct me!

A strong chance of what Mr Name?

The link being removed or a brand spankin new Orbital Album?

Would they not have to seek a new record deal?
Or just resurrect Orbital Records?

Even if you were commenting on the link disappearing, its been a while since I've seen the human musical encyclopedia known as Usernick about, and I have only ever seen 1 post by our other moderator Jof, and Mr Loopz is busy enjoying married life...

Don't Stop Me is growing on me, I prefer it with the new vocoder voice, sounds a bit like Kraftwerk's Radioactivity.

I think the sample on the Gun is Good is David Warner in Time Bandits. If these tracks are the sound of things to come from P & P am very excited.

The problem is that people have been 'borrowing' music since the cavemen first started banging stones with bones...

Musicians nicking each other's ideas has been going on for decades and I remember when sampling first started happening in a big way and the debate that raged about that.

I have a Sonos system that's linked to a Napster stream (for a monthly subscription fee) and it really can't be beat. There are a few albums and artists that aren't on Napster but the vast majority of new releases are available. I'm guessing that streaming is the way forward for home systems or maybe monthly subscriptions for unlimited downloads? The fact is that people will continue illegally downloading until it's not worth their while doing so.

I absolutely prefer the newest version of Don't Stop Me (save for the "shut up" sample). The version currently on Youtube just sounds like something I used to do as a kid with Cool Edit: copy and paste portions of short songs to pad them out into longer versions. It was only until several years later that I realized longer songs aren't necessarily better. This new version is tight. At 3:45 in the song, I get fucking CHILLS. Classic Orbital.

I'm not one to jump up on tables and dance, but if Orbital release new material officially, it just might happen (especially if it continues to sound this good!)
