I love chess!
Most of my mates dont know how to play it (bloody Ipod generation with their instant messaging and Facebook poking).

Is this one where I can take upto a week preparing my tactical advance (or retreat more like!), or is it one of thos Yahoo games type things?

Oh and I am not too hot either Leggy; I got whooped by the entire Indian population when I was out there.
I have never thought of Chess as a spectators sport, but playing it whilst travelling on the trains in India, we had almost hundreds of people watching us... which was slightly unnerving too!

It can be either. The site (chess.com) I play on allows you to designate the maximum time between moves (generally three days) so it's like old-fashioned correspondance chess. It also allows you to analyse the move before you submit it, so if you spot you have made a mistake you can take the move back and correct it.
You can also play it on facebook but that is touch move touch take ie. the moment you make the move it registers automatically.

I like the sound of the three dayer.
I would be up for this, but I fear I may let you down in the 'challenge' stakes...
Afterall I still call the horsey "horsey".

Edit: does anyone know if I can get an online chess analyser?

I watched a game of outdoor chess once for 15 minutes when i was stoned, and didn't get what they where doing.. does that count?

Also, i know the rules, and sometimes I win because the other player is too skilled and tries to Analise my moves and doesn't get my strategy because i don't have one.. it's quite confusing..

But I'd like to play some more, builds up your brain, so they say..

Loopz Chess competition anyone?

Ha. Just seen this.

I was second in the Middlesex Junior Championships in 1972. I also used to play postal chess, which is quite difficult for 'normal' people to understand - games lasting for 3 years, for example!

I haven't picked up a bishop (fnarr fnarr) for years & years now.

You might enjoy the three day limit games then. Modern postal chess you could say.
