what would you put in the set?

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

Bigpipe Style and Walk Now to take the place of OPS and The Box (though I would be sad to see it go). Could only be made better with Tension to start the fun off.

Either way, can't wait to see what Battersea and Dublin bring along!

Like your considered ( :nerd ) reply Loopz.

Looks like there's a strong feeling for The Naked And The Dead and Walk Now/About.
.
I would love to hear these live again. Especially Walk Now/About. After living here in Sydney now for 5 years I still smile everytime I hear the lights go at a road crossing. :D

I agree with the dropping tracks:

OPS, Know Where To Run and The Box. Although I am very fond of The Box and LOVE the female vocal sample that has been put in this year.

Add You Lot, The Naked And The Dead & Walk Now/About.

BUT what we've all forgotten about is they also need some space to fit... NEW MATERIAL in there. Remember they have said in recent interviews that they will probably write some new material for new live shows. But I'm all for that being added as an extra track :-) rather than taking something else out

Also do keep the rest of the set from now just rejig it.

Mix the tracks around, I know that means making new bridges but isn't that half the fun?

Impact towards the end again (and maybe the normal way round, I think you're right Loopz about it being a bit anti-climactic the other way round..although the 99 tour was fun).
Crime then changing to Chime then that mixing into The Naked And The Dead? Just have the end beats of Chime change and roll into The Naked and the dead (Beefed up 2009/2010 style?)
Lush maybe into Walk Now/About

Maybe...drop..Doctor?

And add Way Out? (bloody love that tune).

Oh and I forgot to mention my idea for Crash N Carry/Tech Park hybrid tune.

Would be fun to mess around with in their studio I bet.

Sorry for posting so much, to myself really, see i'm thinking up stuff as I'm writing rather than taking my time like Loopz LOL.

Loopz - Really love your idea about the warm up DJ/DJ's playing other Orbital tracks that won't be in the set. Especially older tracks. The only thing with that then is that you might be disappointed if you heard a track you were hoping would be in the set played by the DJ beforehand.
But then you'd also have to cut the meet ups short so you could hear the DJ before Orbital came on...not like the pissheads I heard about from the last night at Brixton who were 15mins late for the start of the set due to their alcohol addictions.. :P :roll

After the Big Chill I would have said yes to dropping KWTR, but after Manchester I've revised my opinion of that.

There are two tracks which almost always get played in the set, yet I've never been a huge fan, they are Satan and Halcyon.

I must admit the latest version of Halcyon did have more of a dance feel towards the end and Satan did come to life with a different riff, but even so if they could be replaced with TGWTSIHH and maybe Forever or Midnight then I can go to bed happy.

...................oh and The Box is an epic but please play the part 3 version as on the cd, as this is would be the set highlight.

I think its perfectly clear and unanimous that the boys will go on to Transient and that a welcome return of Forever or You Lot and more MON (preferably Nothing Left 1&2) will replace OPS and Out There Somewhere 1&2.

I dont think TGWTSIHH should make a return. I love the tune, but I have heard it too many times live and I also think the Box should stay. Its a classic and very recognisable to the people who arent obsessed with grown men wearing novelty glasses, pushing buttons and twiddling nobs...

I couldnt imagine an Orbital gig without Halcyon or Satan...
I don't know you people...why are you here?

That would be a brave gig alright. It would open up twenty minutes for other stuff though.
Braver still would be no Chime. I'm not advocating either scenario, but it would an interesting experiment make. They would have to be supremly confident that they could pull it off.

WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT DROPPING ANYTHING, JUST ADD MORE

in light of above statement, can I admit to not feeling the love for Satan, it doesn't seem as epic has it has done,
maybe because it hasn't really been tweaked with like rest of the set

but certainly naked and the dead/dub and more MoN please

know where to run 2009 is great,
how about a bit of Technologisky Park

I reckon 2 and 1/2 hours is doable.

Wouldnt be too much of a stretch for the boys. A 2 hour main set, off for a quick piss break then back on for a half hour encore?

That way, they won't have to drop anything, just add 3-4 tunes.

:D :applause

Underworld do the occasional 3 hr show, I'm sure Orbital would be up to doing 2 1/2 hrs. The fans WOULD LOVE IT!

Totally agree with you, especially if they are going to add new tracks as well.

Have to admit, though, that I would prefer about 20 other Orbital tracks over Naked And The Dead and Walk Now as additions to the live set. Don't get me wrong, I like them and the intro to Walk Now is great. But I prefer Orbital with loads of melody or rather a fine balance of beats and melody. Those two tracks are too rhythm-oriented IMHO. For the same reason, I would be disappointed if they played Beelzebeat and dropped the second part. As much as I love the rhythmic first, I wouldn't want to miss the melody and euphoria of the second.
