Yes, mine broke. So i need new ones.
I plugged mine into a inlet on the boiler of the central heating.. god knows why it had a plug, god also knows why i plugged in my headphones, but there was a terrible noise, and now my left earbud is dead.
I had those in-ear phones i got with my sony-ericsson W810i, and they where quite good actually. crispy sound and good bass.
So, now i need new ones.
I want either In-ear buds or those large ones that go over your ears.
for several reasons:
- The sound is usually better in a "air-thight" system (those sound isolating earphones)
- A lot of the surrounding sound is cut of
- People sitting next to you can't hear your music.
I always get pissed of sitting in the train hearing tssss tsss tssss tssss from some other person with no music taste....
any tips?
I'm not planning to spend 100's of euro's on them, maybe not even a 100 euro's. Importing from usa might be an option, as 100 dollars is now like 17.5 euro's or so.
and i don't want sennheiser, they suck.

if you don't want sennheiser, then probably more sonys are the way to go.. they're the only two brands i've seen frequently recommended for this sort of phones.
edit: i'm talking about the in-ear ones.... i don't know so much about the over-ear type except that my senny hd-25s are bloody great

Well, I've got Bose QuietComfort 3's, but they cost a lot of cash...
I would have recommended Sennheiser, but you've already discounted those...

Why?
Because it can be done, that's why.
I just noticed you could plug headphones into the thing. So i just had to know why it had that function. it seemed so unlogical.

I looked into some different stuffs.
Found these:

that look interesting. and are about in a good price range.
Been looking at some Shures, but i saw that the ones in my pricerange had a Frequency Range of 25Hz – 18.5kHz
which seems a bit narrow...
Sony also has some nice options.
Problem with in-ear phones is, they won't let you test them most of the time...

Sennheiser are NOT a rubbish brand. They make some of the world highest spec audio equipment. You just have to find the right tools for the job (and spend the right money - with headphones you kinda get what you pay for!)
I'm not sure about in-ear stuff as I don't really use them, but for fully enclosed 'TISH-TISH-TISH' killing headphones: in my day job I use the Sennheiser HD-25's. Can be rather 'bright' sounding which is good for speech (my main focus) but I've also used them for choons with top results. They do a cheaper version (HD25SP) which has a more basic 'headband' but the same electronics.
Also good are the Sony MDR series (7505, 7506, 7509).
Heard good things about the Ultrasone range, but not used them as yet.
All these cans fall into the high price bracket, but they are EXTREMELY good at what they do. Hope this is of some help...

Another Sennheiser fan here.
I wanted the HD25s, but couldn't afford them, so got the HD205s instead, which are the budget version. About £20, excellent sounding, and the right ear angles back which is really useful when DJing...

i didn't say it's rubbish

just saying i'm not a big fan.
and besides, i'm way to hip to use them, everybody's using them
i went to a store to try those bose in-ear phones, they sounded quite classy, but they didn't have spare rubbery thingies... i do want them to fit nicely.
on to another store!

At some point in time (possibly this year!), I'm going to buy these to replace my Bose Quiet Comfort 3's:
(And, yupo, they're Sennheiser)
Maybe when I get my bonus...
