I need some music tips

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

I need some music tips

Post by Timbob »

Lately i've been listening to a lot of ambianty music, and it's great background music while working in a noise workplace :D

So. I want more.

Stuff i like:
Biosphere. Especially his dropsonde album.
Stuff like Aphex twin's SAW II
Some of Bill Laswell and Tetsu Inoue's stuff (like Cymatic scan)
More of those gently flowing melodies with a hint of beat every now and then...

any recommendations?

It's 106 miles to Chicago.
We got a full tank of gas,
half a pack of cigarettes.
It's dark and we are wearing sunglasses

Try...
Global Communication: 76:14
or
Brian Eno: Music for Airports

A few (but not all) of the tunes on Arovane's Atol Scrap are nice and sweeping

Anything by a bloke that goes under the moniker of 'Christ'. The name may be a bit naff but his album Blue Shift Emissions is fantastic.

The Kompakt Pop Ambient Series is always good to work to, as is Brian Eno's Music for Airports.

Some personnal recommendations:-
The Orb - Blue Room (40 mins)
Manuel Göttsching - E2-E4
Global Communication - Remotion
Can - Strange Days
Love is wise, hatred is foolish.....

Been brainwashing myself to the ambient channels @ di.fm and soma.fm the whole day. Loads of good stuff there, although you probably already knew that. If you want really light and floaty stuff, listen to Ishq, he's great.

Normally I'm more of a psybient man myself, though. That stuff's just awesome.
