F@CK!!!
I thought the USA, RIAA & MPAA were the big evil bastards in this fight, but it looks like the UK isn't f@ckin' around anymore either. This is the second guy in a week they've raided overthere.
Unfortunately, I think this just the begining of a very strong worldwide anti-piracy push.

scare tactics, not gonna happen. nobody panic
the news stories have been full of bullshit, saying that the guy was running the site as a huge money-making venture, and that people had to pay for continued access to download music. bollocks. the site accepted voluntary donations, as many sites do including this one, and i doubt they even covered the running costs. oh, and that the site was the source of pre-release album leaks, also untrue, almost all pre-release rips originate from 'the scene', before spreading everywhere on the net (including oink, until recently

). i don't know if the original news story was wilfully spreading the propaganda, or just falling for whatever lies they were fed, but it's amazing how many other news sources (major ones, including the bbc) just parrotted the same misinformation almost word-for-word. shockingly poor lazy journalism.

A bit of good news about the OiNK user database here too, though I was never really worried in the first place.

the irc chat is with oink (the nickname of the guy who ran the site, as well as being the name of the site). paine was another staff member who wasn't arrested.

it's questionable whether there's any truth behind that torrentfreak story. has anyone seen it reported anywhere else?
