Fuse-In: Detroit's Electronic Movement - May 28-30

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

Fuse-In: Detroit's Electronic Movement - May 28-30

Post by stargurl »

Lineup released today... Every year I'm almost amazed that they manage to pull it off. The festival has been plagued with problems since the start. I've been a couple of times now and it's fun. Where else can you enjoy so much talent (more this year than in the past, IMO) for free?

I know!

Based on this year's lineup, I'd love to go... except I'm already thinking about going to Detroit at the end of that week for Kraftwerk.

Although either decision wouldn't be too bad.

That is some line-up! :o

I've just scanned who's playing, and you've got most of the original Detroit innovators playing there at some point over the weekend (Carl Craig, Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins)... Only one missing would be Derrick May...

Added to that the other DJ's that caught my eye: Ben Simms, Kenny Larkin, Richie Hawtin, Blake Baxter, Stacey Pullen...

Blimey, me wants to go to Detroit!

I had a long reply typed out but then I lost it. Long story short, I would assume that Derrick May has not been asked to play due to his previous involvement with running the festival.

The scariest part about the festival is that it's often the afterparties that have the best lineups, although they are sometimes/often shut down:
In 2001 I saw Richie Hawtin spin for hours at this club inside a hotel and this remains one of my best music related memories, SUCH a night
In 2003 I saw Speedy J, Matthew Dear, Vladislav Delay/Luomo, Stewart Walker, Derek Plaslaiko and some others that I'm sure I've forgotten. Richie Hawtin showed up and was going to play but then the party was shut down :( At this point we hung around for a bit deciding where to head next, decided to go back into Canada... I whimped out and decided I'd call it a night... where did everyone else end up? Richie's house. I was kicking myself for that one!

DEMF or Kraftwerk, DEMF or Kraftwerk
Actually both depend on finding a ride and someone to stay with, so perhaps neither...

*gasp*

For the first time this year, the festival willl have an admission fee: $10 per day or $25 for the weekend

Either way, not a bad deal.
