Which Laptop?

Post by chime »

Dear All

Looking to buy a laptop as I am doing more and more parties and BBQ's than ever this year and my i-pod video tends to lock up every once in a while!
Looking for a decent sound card, and don't really want Vista if possible (Dell have a xp/vista option), budget is about £600 - all suggestions are welcome :-)

Cheers

I have an Acer laptop which I got from Ebuyer a few years ago, not sure about the spec you require but as a manufacturer and value for money I've been more than happy.

Avoid Dell at ALL costs...

Toshibas used to be bombproof but since they started outsourcing the production to other companies, their quality has bombed.

Compaq/HP are not too bad but can suffer from onboard LAN port issues.

Fujitsu Siemens are pretty reliable, but if I had the moolah, I'd replace my old Dell with a new Sony Vaio.

Yeah Dell are fine. I've ran an inspiron 8600 for years and its solid as long as you look after your build etc. X300's were renowned for being crap and gave Dell a bit of a smack around the mouth. I also have a D620 which is fine but is a work machine :) Dell through and through in the company i work for...

Chime - did you get lots of ram?

Dell machines are Ok build wise, it's just how they treat their non-corporate customers that is giving them such a HUGE bad name... I've never had any problems with my Dell Inspiron 8400 but I'd NEVER buy from them again.

I just ordered a MacBook Pro. I can't wait for it to get here.

Are any of you other MacBook owners running bootcamp & XP? If so, how's it working for you? Any big hiccups yet?

I've got a partition with XP on my Macbook that I access through either bootcamp or Parallels... no complaints :)
