I consider Dwr Budr (Dirty Water) to be Orbital's best piece of work, yet who the heck is Auntie? I've looked around in google and wikipedia...havent found a thing. Cept those vocals on the track are pretty slick. Btw has anybody played it in reverse to make out what shes saying?

Are the lyrics backwards? Or is it just the reverb recorded backwards?

Any takers?

Cracking tune though, the intro still blows me away.

Well, that only works if you've got the wav file handy... Audition lets you do it to MP3 files... Unfortunately, the copy of 'In Sides' I have on my PC came from the CD through iTunes, so it's an m4a track and Audition can't handle them...

Anyway, got it in Audition, reversed the relevant sections and still can't understand what Alison is singing...

However, if the vocals are reversed in the track, they recorded them, reversed them and reverbed them and then flipped them back round the other way, so when you listen to Alison's vocals the right way round (with the track reversed), the reverb builds up to the note.

As a total sidenote, the percussion sounds amazing reversed :D

She's not singing anything in particular, she's just warbling on.

I cant remember where I saw or heard it, but she admitted she wasnt singing lyrics as such.

Did she fall out with Orbital? I'm sure I read she had a bust up with them and in Vogue magazine last month she said it was boring singing that style of music. Wouldnt surprise me though, her diva ish ways are well known

Goldfrapp's overated anyway - she's Kylie Minogue's perverted big sister she is...

Kylie Minogue's perverted big sister
Again, Shady, you give me (not entirely unpleasant!) strange mental images!

I lurve her...

I aknowledge that she can be a bit "offish" at times but I think that all adds to it.

I heard something along those lines too Pooka, cant remember where from though.

As for her being Kylies older sister...

Thanks for that image shady.

Err, I didn't buy the track from iTunes, I put one of my many copies of 'In Sides' into my PC and ripped it using iTunes so I could listen to it on my iPod. There was no piracy involved*. It just so happens that iTunes rips the song to an unencoded m4a format, whereas if you buy it from the iTunes store, it's an encoded m4a.

*Not this time anyway ;)
