stargurl: how The Orb sounds like varies from album to album, mainly due to the fact that Alex Paterson (it's written with one "t", isn't it??) has worked with so many artists.

This time, in Okie Dokie, it's mainly a collab with Thomas Fehlmann, and less of a disjointed project like the previous few albums. Mind you, I still love my Cydonia, but Okie Dokie really feels cohesive.

Fehlmann's contributed in the making of Orblivion, Orbus Terrarum and Bicycles & Tricycles (and more!), but none of these albums are alike.

In fact, depending on what you like, I can recommend Orblivion and The Orb's Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld for good dance hall kicks, or perhaps Orbus Terrarum and U.F.Orb for ambient sounds. If you feel tolerant of weirdness, try Pomme Fritz. Cydonia is my personal favourite, but many seem to disagree. Bicycles and Tricycles I've only heard once, but it sounds pretty cool.

Gotta dig The Orb...

Oh, and I think I got to buy this Obsessions vol. 1! If only for the Cauty connection... And oh man, they better come out in vol.2 with the fully reworked Space!!!

UFOrb is my favourite Orb album - dusted it off recently and is getting heavy rotation on the PSP on the way to work in the morning.

Pretty stoked about Youth being back on board for the new album - would love it if Alex and Thrash settled their differences once and for all and get the "classic" line up back....

I kinda lost interest in The Orb after the first couple of albums ('pomme fritz' put me right off and I don't think they ever really fully captured the magic again after that) but heard that the last album was a bit of a return to form. Not heard any of it myself but quite tempted to get it....how does it compare to 'adventures...' and UF Orb'?

Yup, I didn't really like "Okie Dokie" that much - did, however, love "Bicycles & Tricycles"...

On further Orb-related news, discovered this German interview undertaken last December. Using Google language tools uncovered this little bit of info:

"As there would be: finally the transit Kings (with Jimmy Cauty), MadOrb (reggaelastiges project with MAD professor, album is to come in the next year) and a freshly created project with Punk Vocals, evenly bake tons there roots. Oh, a further Orb album with the old way companion Youth already is in planning. In this autumn comes out besides "Orb session", a strictly limited album with unpublished sessions from the past fifteen years. And its former disk company Iceland/universal has announced sometime 2006 a Deluxe version of "Ultraworld" (the double album + the Remixalbum + the first two Peel sessions; the whole arranges complex) to publish. "

So:

- A new Orb album with Youth (mentioned in another interview last year)
- Another mention of the MadOrb album - glad to see that's still in the pipeline
- New project with "punk vocals" - interesting - will probably annoy those fans who like their Orb "ambient"! :-p
- Deluxe version of "Ultraworld", comprising "Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld", "Aubrey Mixes: The Ultraworld Excursions", and the first two "Peel Sessions"... Couldn't they add a DVD to that to complete the set??? :-p

Nice! 8)
