Ricky, sorry if I sound like a nob, coz I don't ever mean to but the word is Tenterhooks. These were special hooks used by canvas makers to dry and stretch the canvas after the weaving and washing without punching holes in them. Indeed there is an area of Dublin called the The Tenters down in the Liberties from this trade. :D

Legspin: Thats good to know. I actually used to work in Blackpitts near The Tenters. I do however have to pick you up on a couple of things...

Coz is actually spelled: '
Because'. As a conjunction it means 'for the reason that'. And as a preposition it means 'as a result of'.

Nob is actually spelled: '
Knob'. This has a number of meanings. Firstly it can be a round handle, or a small round device for controlling a machine or electrical equipment. It can also mean a round lump on the surface or end of something OR a small amount of something solid, especially butter. It can also be a crude reference to a penis. 8)

I hope this helps you out. :D

Touché :roll

However, the spelling of nob is correct when refering to the slang phrase of a upper class type of gobshite, also used in the slang verb 'To Hobnob' - to hang out with your betters in the hope of gaining social or monetary advantage.

as I do here :P

and it's more usual for the spelling 'nob' to be used in vulgar slang referring to the male reproductive tool...
