I saw Batman Begins on Sunday. It was awesome. After Sideways, it's my second favourite film of the year, despite being totally different. The wonder of cinema, eh?

I think it's easily the best Batman movie (yes, I'm including the Adam West version - don't try to argue me out of it), and one of the best comic-to-movie adaptations ever - up there with Spiderman 2 and X-Men 2.

It's stylish, exhilarating, atmospheric, terrifying - everything you could want from an action film, but with an intelligent and ambiguous moral core which takes it a notch above your standard blockbuster fare.

Christian Bale makes a great Bruce Wayne/ Batman, showing the superb range he rarely gets to display. Cillian Murphy was excellent as Crane/Scarecrow, and genuinely scary.

Go see it!

I'm sure its a great film Jessop, but it cant be anywhere near as refined as Piranha II: The Spawning.

Look at that

Not only are they ugly fish... but they fly too!!!

They can attack from anywhere, they can breathe out of water too.

No plausable thumbs though, so they couldn't fix a mean egg and bacon sarnie, or hitch a lift...

If there wasn't a scene where Batman runs around with a cannonball with the word 'BOMB' written on it and a fizzing length of fuse sticking out of it, then it's not as good. Full Stop.

Saw Dodgeball yesterday and laughed out loud on quite a few occasions. Very funny if you like slapstick and high camp. Only let down slightly by the mandatory hollywood ending.

I just saw War of the Worlds and i thought it was great. It suffered from a weak ending just like the original story but it looked great and was action packed

Is it wrong if I heard the crazy sound the tripod-things made and immediately thought "Ooh, someone should sample that?"

Perhaps I (can't tell you how much I) hated this film because I loved Jeff Wayne/David Essex version from back in the day so much...

Looking forward to War of the Worlds. Have just finished reading the book.... What a genius Mr Wells was.

I'm also a huge fan of the Jeff Wayne version and spent many a saturday afternoon listening to my fathers LP when I was but a wee sprog.

Am expecting to see a summer blockbuster with enough effects and tension to keep me entertained for 2 hours.... but I wish the film could have followed the book; in relation to characters and time periods.
I think that would have worked better but probably wouldnt of had the mass appeal that this Cruise based movie will have.

I have heard that a movie remake of the original Jeff Wayne musical is being made for release next year...now that i would like to see as it will follow the original storyline.

Also I am not really into musicals but would pay good money to go to a west end production with all the original songs...i think i would be singing along for sure!!!

."....come on THUNDERCHILD.....!"

You're not wrong Willsy - there is both a musical version and a CGI movie of Jeff Wayne's 'War of the Worlds' due in the next two years. Check this link out for some stunning CG animation from the forthcoming feature:
