mm i remember reading this one a couple of years ago, it was up on the web. never quite forgotten it for some reason.
incontinent granny sex sounds particularly erotic. there's actually some guy on that nsb message board who says he's had sex with some old woman who had a cholostomy bag. nice.

Hmm. All sounds a bit "Vulva" to me.
I probably would have loved the music but mighta felt a little uncomfortable with the narration.
The last track with the violin sounds a bit special.
Glad you all enjoyed it.

Good little meet up at the pub opposite to start with a few familular faces and a couple I hadnt met before as well.
Paul Hartnol and a friend of his also turned up for a beer or two unfortunatly the veggies in the group had eaten all the veggie burgers so paul went hungry !
I had a chat with him about mowhawks and he said he used to have one way back when and wished he had pix but never took any. He is currently working on his new album and progressing nicely. He is also setting up a new Musician Myspace page too.
The event.
Nice venue with loadsa black curtains to keep the room dark,
Down the two long sides were longrange on one side and C-6 on the opposite wall.

At either end were lil podiums for chuck and irvine with seats and mic's

Whole room is full of the audience all standing. It reminded me of theatre in the round in some respects.

we are treated to music then some readings from irvine then more music then chuck repeat a few times and its all good. yes some of the stories were a bit disturbing but thats the style of writing these two go for.
Also on hand were C-6 with the most fantastic visuals and would have loved to have seen them do their work with orbital back in the day cos it was damn good.
The 2 writers were lit very starkly with just one very bright spotlite ( thats why my cam phone pix were a bit crappy.) this was to enable the C6 guys to video them and then digitaly convert the image into a kida matix code and project it onto all the cloth screens hanging from the ceeling to stunning effect which they then also mixed with other visual media that complimented the stories. At times there were 2 different sets of images being projected onto the screens. very impressive work from C-6 they did something realy different and unexpected.

Music wise there was a fantastic track with a deep rumbling bass line that shook the whole room.
Mid way there was a fantastic dancie track that realy kicked of the crowd. the story with the boy in the hot spring was damn nasty and made me cringe what was worse was when Phil nick and the stage manager all threw out Meat air fresheners into the audience that smelt like 2 month old Mc Donalds and Frazzles ! loadsa people opened them and there was a terrible smell that went along with Chucks highly discriptive dialogue.
The stand out peice was the final track with which we had the Live violin from Sarah Tunnel and Vocals from Kelly Malone. this track is availible to listen to on the
http://www.myspace.com/longrangemusic page it is untitled ONE it was absolutly stunning.
Flyer, folded program and close up of longrange press shot.
I emailed Longrange and aksed if they were repeating it at the Big chill and nick replied with no it will be a live music event only but Sarah and Kelly will be there doing live violin and vocals With Will White from propellerheads on the drums. Sounds damn interesting and im considering going.

For those that are sick/interested (delete as appropriate), the "Guts" story is from the book "Haunted", which is also on the net
here - enjoy!

Yuck!
XFM's breakfast show has a segment called Storyville where an author reads extracts from their book.
All this week it's been Chuck reading from Haunted and they've had to seriously edit what he read to air it!!
Apparently loads of people have fainted and been sick at his book readings

I was quite suprised how much i enjoyed the event as i've never really enjoyed spoken word but of course i think the subject matter kept me intrigued if slightly disturbed.

I think its all been said but i have to say the last track with live violin/vocals was very special.
Twas a nice meetup as well.

I'm not very big on reviews, so the short version is that I really enjoyed it. It was lovely to see some of you, great to see a couple authors that I like read their work, and even better to see Phil and Nick do their stuff. Nice call on the pub, too: they had my favourite drink!
Saturday night was good, too. Wouter, Matt, and I went to see Krafty Kuts... but then on Sunday we learned that Phil had played somewhere on Saturday. Oops.
It was also nice to be in an English speaking country for a few days...
