The Big Chill 2006

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

"Finally, Big Chill stalwarts Bent will be performing live at the festival, as part of (sniff) their farewell tour, so be prepared so shed a tear amidst the joy!"
What the hell! Why? :(

They're splitting due to 'musical differences'. Theres an iTunes only album called 'Ahhhr Funk' due out shortly and then their final album will be released later in the year (I think). I haven't spoken to either of them for a while now, but the above is true, so there aren't any other nasty surprises around the corner...

Blimey. That's a shame.

As an act so diverse, i'm surprised they could have such a thing, unless it's to do with their future direction, which you could see changing with Ariels.

Any idea what the iTunes album is like? I imagine it will be hard beating the aforementioned...

mm apparently the two of them in the studio are basically heading in different directions, and neither wants to "compromise", so maybe it's best if they do their own things. hasn't stopped them being mates and all that jazz...
there's some tracks from the new album on their myspace page. expect lots of "songs", from guest vocalists, but musically less of a "band" album than ariels, more studio-jiggery-pokery-based...

Can some clarify something for us,
on the ticket it states there is no alcohol to be brought in,

i take that means into the arena area and not forbidding crate loads being brought on to the campsite ???

if bent play live at the big chill and don't do a hometown gig sometime soon i'm going to, um, uh.... be upset.
that'll teach them.
Your prayers have been answered - the warm up gig to The Big Chill is at The Rescue Rooms on 3rd August! 8)

Unfortunately, because we're all likely to already be at The Big Chill on that night... :?

Lost Vagueness have been added to the line-up!

Also, me and some cohorts will be playing in a 'Disco Shed' on site throughout the festival. Expect 'nuff post-bedtime frolicks basically.

I'll also be performing with Laroca, live on the Sanctuary stage on Saturday arvo if of interest.

Other live top tips for Orbital lovers!- Echaskech, Jon Hopkins and Digitonal.

Looking forward to this immensely.....

I have 7 essential acts, over three different stages, who I'm desperately hoping will not clash:

Sanctuary Stage - Echaskech

Castle Stage - Jon Hopkins, Longrange, The Egg

Open Air Stage - José Gonzalez, Amba, Bent

And as for all the others I hope to see...

*all extremities crossed*
