Old / rare tracks

The Music Discussion forum has replaced the old Lyrics and Samples forum and the Live Scene and Music Reviews forum. This forum is used to discuss anything relating to Music including Orbital topics, the live scene including Orbital gigs past, present and future. This section is an ideal place to post your live gigs reviews and album / single reviews. This forum can also be used to discuss Orbital lyrics and samples. The website will never disclose or confirm samples for legal reasons - so this is the next best thing.

Old / rare tracks

Post by Steve C »

[Please don't flame/ridicule/ban etc. me for this, it's just an honest question from someone who became a fan last year and seeking the last few tunes he's missing]

I was wondering about certain really old/rare tunes from the early days (namely 2 Deep, Analogue Test, LC 2 and Open Mind) - are these tracks still available anywhere, if so where can I get hold of them?

(yes I know the forum policy and I've heard the samples on the site but if I can get hold of the full versions I'd be very happy)

They're all on CD/vinyl that you can find in second-hand collectors' shops if you look around, and they turn up on ebay every now and then too. Just gotta keep searching!

Amazon can be a good source of secondhand CDs as well as eBay.
I've got quite a lot of old Orbital stuff from both sources.

Thanks, the list (obtained off discogs.com, all on FFRR) is as follows:

Omen - cassette single (for 2 Deep)
Omen - CD5 single (for Open Mind)
Midnight/Choice - CD5 single (for Analogue Test)

Well, there's currently a Midnight/Choice CD single on ebay here - these crop up fairly often on ebay, so if you don't get this one, keep looking - one turns up on a weekly basis!

The two Omen releases are extremely rare (even the cassette), but I'll keep a look out for you... :)

Yeah, I see Midnight/Choice around quite a lot. The Omen CD's quite rare - seen it on ebay once or twice, but the only time I bid it was against someone who was clearly DESPERATE for it, so I just pushed the bidding up from £8 to over £40 and then left him to it.

Thanks for the info so far, I'll have a go at getting the Midnight/Choice CD off ebay. If the other two are so rare, would I be better off chasing the Omen 12" instead? (there is a record player in the house but I don't use it and there's the issue of converting the tunes to CD but the vinyl does have both 2 Deep and Open Mind apparently)

it's a lot cheaper to buy the 12" yes.
you'll even have money left to buy yourself a new turntable :D

you could also try to get the songs from some compilation cd's.

Yep, despite my lack of familiarity with ebay's bidding system I decided not to mess around with prices and get it first time. (it's not an astronomical price for a rare single and in any case I won't be thinking about that when I'm playing it :p)

Now for that Omen vinyl... (I should be able to get it onto cd through a convoluted method I've used for getting old tapes onto cd)
