I don't see the whole points bit really getting out of hand... not with the group of people we've got here.
Another board I post on (http://www.tribe.ca), our top 20 posters all have over 18000 posts! The top poster is a few posts of 42000 (his average posts per day sits at 22). Insanity. I'm number 130 there, with 5373 posts... even that's a lot.
I can't imagine what it would be like there if we had points. General forum has over 1.8 million posts in over 55000 threads. The picture thread alone has over 1.5 million views and 24000 posts - I can't imagine the hosting cost.

Exactly what happened on GYBO. They introduced the idea of buying a pet, which cost points as well as the food, grooming, cleaning etc. which all cost more points. You could get points in the Casino too, but the post count went through the roof and lets face it, some people post like mad around here already so if we get more drivel just to get points, that'll spoil it...Hexaphim wrote:I briefly frequented a forum with a point system, and it was horrible. People were desperate to get points, so they replied to as many posts as they possibly could, mostly just rubbish or "just replying for points, hahahahahah" and stuff like that.
Topics moved to page 2 so quickly because so many people were posting bullshit.
On that site you could buy clothing and crap for your avatar with your points, though, I don't see any of that here yet.
And there's always the off chance that it might work out good on this smaller forum.
Probably.
I hate to pick a small hole in your faultless Middle Earth logic mateLoopz wrote:The points wont just be about posts and if we end up with people posting crap to get their points up (or stats for that matter) then we will exclude them from it (which we can do). I'm just trying to make things a bit more of a community while we are waiting for solo Orbital action

but then again, it's a really big forum with a lot of subfora in every direction.. so not like this, being a one band forum..
-edit-
You have exceeded the alloted amount of posts and will not earn anything for your post
