I'm a big fan of Family Guy, and have been since it started airing, but I think the last few episodes have been subpar at best.

American Dad I gave up after three or four episodes, it was a huge disappointment in my eyes.

The South Park/Chef episode in question is fantastic, but you really need to watch the episode that made Hayes leave in the first place, Trapped in the Closet, from season 9 (we're on 10 now, right? :P)

South Park recently did a double-episode about Family Guy, actually, called Cartoon Wars. While they weren't as funny as South Park frequently is, it felt "important" somehow. In this two-parter, Family Guy tries to show a cartoon Mohammed, but is censored... and all hell breaks loose.

While they DO bash Family Guy (and made me notice the things that have been annoying me about FG lately), that's not the important point; censorship is. And at the end of part 2, you see what South Park got away with showing, and what they didn't get away with showing. It's quite extraordinary.

Some people don't get the Transformers. It's simple. They're big robots. And they change into things. And they fight. This is beautiful and mad. If you do not get this, there is something missing in your soul. - Paul O'Brien

Top voted quote on all yer quotes

Mr. Garrison: How would you like to go see the school counselor?
Cartman: How would you like to suck my balls?
Mr. Garrison: What did you just say?!
Cartman: Oh, I'm sorry (Clears throat and pulls out megaphone), actually what I said was, "How would you like to suck my balls, Mr. Garrison?"
Slugs! HE created slugs! They can't hear. They can't speak. They can't operate machinery. Are we not in the hands of a lunatic?

Where can I get this from?
i've always got my scrubs via http://www.isohunt.com - i'm guessing you'll still be able to get every episode, all seasons, from there. i'm current to this week's episode, 521, haven't watched it yet but don't expect it's the end of the season yet.
scrubs is comedy genius also 8) despite the unconventional use of "real people" rather than traditional animation. season 5 has a slightly different feel to it than all the earlier ones, but is still quality.

intrigued by the sound of the "cartoon wars" south parks, i do like when these shows do episodes clearly aimed to let the viewer know what's been going on behind the scenes - i remember enjoying the censorship episode of family guy, but don't rememeber the details. maybe i'll refresh myself on that before i watch the south park eps 8)

american dad didn't match family guy for me but i still really enjoyed it. great characters, but there was no stewie (or cartman, or bender...{oooh quick bender-related tangent - if they ever bother making more star wars films, i'm convinced they should get darth to say "bite my shiny metal ass!" - yes you can tell i'm a star wars purist superfan can't you? :P })

i'm not up to date with the simpsons, have obviously seen every episode that repeats endlessly on terrestrial, watched it fairly religiously on sky 1 for the two years i had cable a few years ago, and downloaded a lot of episodes also a few years ago, but never came near to getting on top of the whole lot - and there's obviously plenty more since then. maybe i'll work on that next :D especially now we finally have a dvd burner so storage space is less of an issue (just 'cos you buy a 250gig hard drive doesn't mean it's not full all the damn time  ). i do hear that the simpsons has gone downhill a bit in recent years, but it's such an ingrained part of modern society that as long as it's still "good" even if not "classic", then i'd be happy for them to keep making it & i'd keep watching it. like i still watch neighbours as a built-in part of life in general, even tho it's never been particularly stunning. i'd understand if people feel otherwise tho, that's just how i see the simpsons because it's been around for so long, but other people might feel about the simpsons how i'd feel if they churned out series after series (sorry, season :P ) of "good enough" family guy...

mm that quote is classic cartman but it's not his best work. an old one that's always been the most firmly lodged in my memory:

(following on from a couple of instances along the lines of "if some girl tried to kick my ass, i'd be like, why don't you get your ass back in the kitchen and make me some pie?" - in the context of stan being bullied by his sister)

cartman: "if some girl tried to kick my ass, i'd be all like, ey, why don't you stop... dressing me up... like the mailman... and making me dance for you.. while you go and smoke.. crack... in the bedroom... and have sex with some guy... i don't even know... on my dad's bed?!"
stan(?): "cartman - what the hell are you talking about?"
cartman: "i'm just saying, you're just a little wuss, that's all..."
dance your cares away, worries for another day
