Yes, they do eventually die off - I traded my second one in for an Egg which never seems to hatch!

The pet death was implemented a while ago so i'm kinda of glad its starting to kick in.

That also seems to have a fairly short shelf life - eventually turns into a baby ostrich and disappears after a few regenerations...

also no two animals have the same lifespan just like human life SO...one being could live for a month and another for 3 months! Remember all this because nothing is really static in the game.
